I have added a couple of photos to the 'Photos' section of Richard Perry and myself fighting over class B 1st place at the hairpin at Rockingham Motor Speedway on 22nd July 2001. Richard won by 0.4 of a second! From the photos it appears that I might need slightly stiffer rear dampers! James "James Bilsland" 4296... MORE

Talking of Beaulieu (if that's how you spell it, silly French word) There was some dutch guys hawking a spark dividing device. Goes in the coil ht lead and divides you spark into eight so basically you get a longer spark duration. They talk of economy /& power like most of these devices Anyone any experiences of these? If it's so great how come new cars don't come with one fitted? Jeremy. "Jeremy Cogman" 4279... MORE

My gf and I took the Sprite to Le Mans this year, we were out of the country for 8 days so had quite a lot of clothes with us and food and cooking equipment (eating veggie in France can get a bit dull). I don't trust that tyre goop so we took the spare (take it and you won't need it, don't and ....). Just a few helpful hints You'd be surprised by how much you can get in the centre of the spare, I git my two tool rolls some sockets and a stubby ratchet and a... MORE

They're quite nifty little motors Bob and the extremely short length often means you can park them facing the curb as opposed to parallel motorbike stylee. Got the shock of my life the other day when one came belting past me on the motorway, dunno what speed it was doing but it was starting to get a hell of a wobble on! "Andrew Worley @ Mi-King" 4169... I bought my 1972 Midget about two (2) years ago. I have actually owned three (3) Midgets, going back to about 1986. I have always let 'professionals' do brake work for me, and have never had any problem. Based on regular service, I never needed to top my brake fluid, though I believe that Castrol was always used. This time, I used a different mechanic, due to a move from So. California to Connecticut. I had my brakes serviced on the current car about 500 miles before putting it in the shop for an extended period of time (about... MORE

I had a similar problem recently, but my car started running poorly, then cut out, when warm. After a few minutes to cool down it started and ran as normal. The problem eventually, was a faulty condenser in the distibutor. (a faulty coil could also cause this problem) Phil 1960 Frogeye philipsteller@... 3987... MORE

Stuart I believe that you can use the Maestro ignition/dizzy As I understand it, it is basically the same ignition as I use on my race car (Lucas Rita 'Hall effect') which is an old F3 set up (before they went fully mapped etc...) You will need the dizzy, ignition 'box' and the correct coil. You will also have to modify the advance curve for your engine. The dizzy drive may be different but this can be modified or you can probably build the ignition into the correct Lucas 43/45 dizzy for your car... Where are you based in... MORE

Steve & Lori, I kept an article written for the Mascot mag years ago by Terry Horler.(Who at the tiime I think was trying to get everybody to register their cars details correctly). I think the details are the same for all models, but if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will let me know............... Chassis plate (metal plate fitted to chassis under air filters) AN5 34*** Plate on Left hand door pillar AN 534*** Plate on Right hand door pillar BAE 34*** Body Number stamped into upper footwell, above the brake M/C 34*** (this may be difficult to read)... Hi Margaret and all, Style may be a little as per Beat... But the MGF uses Metro suspension, steering, subframe(s?), engine, 'box (and prob. many other bits). (incidently I think the gearbox is a Peugot item!) The front hubs even come with a kind of 'dummy' outer CV joint for where the driveshaft would be in the Metro. Also thought the MGF design was more recent than the (doomed) BL/Honda partnership? Many Japanese manufacturers produce that class of sub-660cc-odd cars but don't export them, don't they? I can only think of the Suzuki Cappuccino that was also available, until... MORE

Hi All, 1493cc innit? There are a surprisingly high number of VERY low mileage 1979 Midgets in the UK, as I think people bought one to tuck away safe when it was realised Midget production was coming to an end. Most of them seem to be black (colour of last batch of 250 made or something?) I seem to remember advertised prices of 8000 Sterling (12k Dollars?) - doesn't mean they actually sold at that of course! Even if that 1500 is 117k miles and has been resprayed 3 times, if it looks good (perfect?) now and runs well... MORE

I had my Mk 3 Midget re-shelled some years ago now. The bottom half of the old body was rotten!! I compared the cost of having the old body repaired, and a heritage shell fitted. There was not much difference, so it was suggested to me that I opt for the shell, as that way the whole car would be new metal. Also, if the old one had been repaired, there would always be the risk of rust forming around the joins, and on the weaker bits of the original body. Not to mention the smoothing out of the... MORE

Jim Its important that you drink the Guinness AFTER the caliper rebuild and not before. However anyone who has rebuilt a gearbox will know that it is vital to spend at least 4 hours in the pub BEFORE you start - that way when you lose a ball bearing and spring from a gear hub you won't care... Jason, I would suggest that you pull off the front wheel and shake the front hub and look to see what is moving. It could just be the wheel Brg.'s or the rubber bushings. A look should get you started. The other question might be, how long has this condition been present? Is it just staring or been there a long time? Bill '59 Bugeye frenchww@... 3620... MORE

Here's Jason's question: Hello Everyone Just a few questions. First My front wheels, I had the midget up on a lift the other day and I noticed that I can grab a hold of the front wheels and they have a little side to side motion to them. How long can you ride on them this way? ( I have a 450 mile trip that has been planed for up to a year) Also how much in US money would it cost to have the whole front end replaced? (Springs, King pins, rack an pin stuff like that) Thanks... MORE

I have been having some private conversations regarding a rare (so I am being told) Les Leston steering wheel that I have. I may possibly use this thing in my 60 Bugeye, but it is dingy looking. Lots of black sticky crap on it and has some small cracks in it. I am being told that if I have someone re-stain the walnut finish to it and re-clear coat it that I will be ruining the value of it. I am curious as to the validity of that statement as it seems these wheels were made from the 50's... MORE
