Hi chaps, Not sure now what springs I bought! But don't forget the wings are different on the 1500's regarding the position of the arch ie lower relative to the top of the wing. I had trouble with getting a trolley jack under the car without the spacers, and some rubbing of the tyres when, say, pulling into a drive a bit quick (running 5" wheels and 165/70 tyres). Hello fellow members, My name is Ian Kuah. I am a motoring writer and contributor to magazines like Autocar and Auto Express. I am a also big fan of the Frogeye Sprite, and over the years, I have tested several incarnations of the Geoffrey Healey-approved Frogeye Car Company Sprite replica built by Keith Brading on the Isle of Wight. Hi chaps, I bought the lowered/uprated springs from Moss in UK - 330lbs/inch and -1.5 inch seems familiar, though I could be wrong. Found then fun, but just a touch low, and have since fitted 2mm spacers at bottom of springs. Cheers, Phil FilMidget@... 2549... MORE

Mike Good thoughts. I think I should have the ground clearance even though the headers come down pretty far. The 77 rubber bumper is about 2=94 higher th an the chrome bumper model I think. I believe the 340 springs drop the car 1 =94 is that correct. Doug 77 Midget Casco, MI "Doug Pletcher" 2536... MORE

Doug I got 1/2" shorter springs! Don't like spacers, ditched mine. Remember on a road car don't lower it to much as you'll loose the exhaust everywhere. 1/2" is equal to where it rides now on tired springs! I was lower but went back to the 1/2" solution Mike M. Mike Thanks for the input. You are probably correct on the 400 springs. I thin k I will go with the 340 springs. What about just using spacers to drop the springs down. I am not really convinced that is an alternative. Doesn=92t seem like the correct to do it. But than if you use the spacers you don=92 t get the added benefit of the increased spring rate. New springs it is than . Doug Casco MI "Doug Pletcher" 2534... MORE

I need some advise lowering the front suspension of my 77 Midget. What is the best option. Use spacers, lowered 340lb springs or lowered 400lb springs. I also plan to replace all the bushings and add about 1deg negative camber. The car is for street use so what is the best way o go. Doug 77 Midget dougp@... 2518... MORE

Yes I remember being in a barn once. There she sat, two beautiful headlamps, strong chassis, graying top, but the rear end needed some work. She was a finicky at first but finally came around with some loving care. I decided to marry her anyway and that was 22 years ago and the rear end still needs work!!! Also what is this Yank stuff? I am from south Louisiana! We considered anything north of New Orleans a northerner/Yankee! I am what is called a Coonass! We lived right next to the bayous, swamps, and marshes. We would be out... All; I previously posted the following on the Bugeye list and got some great suggestions - particularly to add the fuel pump high on my list. Ithought I would ask you all to see if you have any other suggestions: I put my 1959 Bugeye in the garage in December 1988 in order to manage a new wife, a new house and shortly thereafter a new child. Although a bit of mechanical stuff was done subsequent to that date, it has pretty much sat in the garage. The carbs are HS 1 1/4" that were "rebuilt" professionally two years... MORE

Hello every one I am going to be replacing my leaf springs and all the rubber parts under my 1971 1275 Midget. I have never done something like this and I am asking for some help. If anyone knows how to do this could you give me a step by step instruction on how to do this. And if you have any helpful hints I do appreciate it. Apparently there is going to me an unofficial gathering of Midgets and Sprites this coming Sunday the 15th at Richmond Park (Surrey UK) Gary Lazarus on this list might be able to advise. I might well make it depending on the state of my hangover from the night before . . . . might be in the MGBGT though . . shock horror! Alternatively follow this link: http://www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs Go to the Midget Sprite General section and follow the London Frogs thread. I guess that those of us involved in the UK modified Midget racing scene are the ones who find the book of most interest. I should declare an interest as it is my step-fathers car featured on the cover... (yellow modified Midget). John Baggott has effectively written an account of his own racing experience along with a homage to Steve Everitt who was sadly killed in a road car accident in Greece in 1987. Steve was an amazing guy and dominated UK Midget racing for nearly 10 years. We all knew he could have made it 'to the top'... MORE

Hi Steve - and the rest, The Frontline kit is great. Handling and roadholding vastly improved. I went the uprated lever arm and -ve camber bushes route at first. Personally I couldn't seem to get a decent set of uprated (recon) dampers (or std rate recon come to that). Some were of appalling quality. Also the nylatron bushes didn't last very long in my 1500 (used for 40 mile commute). Overall a PITA. The frontline kit is only expensive when you hand over the cash - once its on the car it will seem like a bargain, and better... MORE

I am doing a rolling rebuild of a fast road 72 midget. My next stage is improved handling,& I have already fitted poly bushes &stiffer rollbar. Does anyone have any advice on Frontline's teleshock conversion versus uprated lever arm dampers & positive camber trunnions? Frontline is expensive but does seem to give positive toplink location & adjustable damping. Any advice would be most welcome. Steve 72 midget "Steve Cowling" 2327... MORE

Steve FRONTLINE KIT When combined with new front springs very good. Had mine about two years now. Improved turn in and control. Improved rebound and stiffness means you can 'press on' even on French 'd' roads (the ultimate test!). I'm happy.......... But 'Peter May' also do a kit as well I think? I am scooting right along now but ran into one major problem with the right front fender. It appears that the Midget was wrecked before and the entire front end of it was rebuilt with good old BONDO. I will try to remove it and reshape the front using the left one as a pattern. The little Midget is now sitting under the canopy very happy with the coat of primer on it. When the heat allows (over 120 degrees in the shade right now), I plan to squirt the silver paint on it. Al least with this heat... MORE

Last night I finished restoring my 1967 Midget and wanted to take it for a test ride. Just needed to fit the steering wheel. Looked all over but couldn't find the nut. Went to bed and continued looking all the morning without positive result. Small problem you might say but it turns out it is a big problem. The car is imported from California to Denmark where I live and for some reason the thread on steering wheel nuts on American Midgets are a little bit different from the ones on European Midgets. They are the same diameter. About... MORE
