Hi Ian & Cathy, Mike et al .... When I go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/midgetsprite there is a yellow column on the left of my screen with a list and 3rd from the bottom is 'Polls'. You can access the POLL through there. Alternatively, let me know and I'll vote for you. (Mike, is it the London in UK, Canada, America, Tanzania or S. Africa?) Made progress on the rust problem, at least until my welder went crazy. At least I pretty much did the rear end of the Midget around the bottom of the boot. Next step is to tackle the sides along the bottom. Rick Las Vegas, Nevada acostahr@... "Acosta" 2091... MORE

I am in day three of my project rebuild. So far no major headaches, just some rust and a right front suspension that was coming apart. Easy fixes!! Has anyone had experience towing spridgets with tow bars. I have a '73 midget and want to tow it to a car meet. I bought a tow bar which attaches to the bumper supports (i.e., remove bumper first, then bolt on in lieu of bumper). All is well on straightaways during the tow, but after a turn the (midget) steering wheel tends to rock back and forth several times, then straightens and rolls true until the next turn. Any suggestions or helpful comments would be appreciated. Kingpins and other steering gear seems tight. Cheers, Chuck Charles A. Lessman, Ph.D... MORE

A fun time was had by all at Prescott Hillclimb Nr Cheltenham last weekend. In all 15 Sprites and Midgets took part in various guises from standard 998cc Frogeyes through Tamsin Fisher's turbocharged 1275cc Midget to Paul Bernal-Ryan's fully modified 1380cc car. Times on the day ranged from 64.47 seconds for Mark Walker's 1908 Panhard-Levassor 12 litre GP car (not the slowest by any means...) through to 41.90 seconds for Oliver Tomlin's Pilbeam MP58H. Paul Bernal-Ryan won the closely fought MGCC Sprint championship class on 51.61 secs from Terry Pigott in an 3.9 litre MGB V8 (51.64). To put... MORE

You can get the disk separately from Victoria British I think or you can get a "kit" that includes a new spring, disk and rubber O-ring (fits around the shift lever) from Motorhead. I think the kit is about $4. Good luck rlirwin@... 1903... MORE

Just to let everyone know (if anyone really cares), I am getting ready to rebuild my 1973 Midget pretty much from the ground up. Right now I drive it on a daily basis but due to it leaking oil and smoking so badly, my wife told me to rebuild the engine. From she told me go ahead and rebuild the front end, re-doing the interior and also to repaint the car. Who said you can't buy love, my wife certainly did!!!! Anyway, as I progress through the labor of love which I have been given only one month to... MORE

Stuck a borrowed Mk2 Sprite axle onto the car. Everything works fine with the exception of the seal. Leaks like crazy. Done the "jack it up in the air - tighten the brake drums on - Give it some grief with a long bar." No joy. Any wise suggestions? I'd hate to have to pull the whole lot off again. Undo the check-straps? Knock out the axle-to-spring bolts to get a windygun on it? "rob thomas" 1853... MORE

Rob, Don't know which model you have but I got mine off using an air gun with the axle still in the car. I put jack stands under the rear body shell so that the axle/springs hung down, removed the drive shaft and moved it aside and hit the nut with my air impact wrench. Did have to make some angle iron bars to bolt to 2 of the wheel studs, long enough to go to the floor on each side to keep the axle from turning. After what seemed like 5 minutes the nut finally broke loose. Biff... MORE

Jim, For replacement front springs, find a local spring works. I have used a guy that makes springs for off-road users, as well as for performance and suspension specialists. They do it all the time and can help you spec. However it helps... MORE

When fitting K&N filters to twin HS2s the Moss Performance Manual recommends H6 fixed needles or AAN biased needles. The use of red dashpot damper springs is also recommended. Paul, I don't know if this will help you but here it is anyway. You might be able to get some good info out of this lot. Gary (Newcastle UK) 69 Sprite MKIV www.geocities.com/garys_sprite_site Facts You Should Know About Air Filters The primary function of an air filter is to clean the air before it enters the engine. If this is true, why do we see so many engines, especially expensive competition engines, without air filters? The answer is airflow. An engine's power output is proportional to the volume of air it can ingest at any given rpm, assuming... MORE

Looking for wisdom (or just opinions) from listers. I am rebuilding front suspension on my Bugeye. Staying with lever dampers(in good shape), replacing all bushings with polyurethanes. Thinking of changing coil springs to lower ride & firm up handling. But not sure what spring rate (lbf/in) should go with - 340, 360 or 400? Bugeye will be strong street only, no racing. I will be using Datsun 5speed, so weight will be a bit more than stock. Any recommendations by those listers who have made similar changes? Also, any suggestions (good/bad experiences) between usual vendors - ie VB, M*ss... MORE

Mark It might be the hydraulic pipe connection to the clutch slave cylinder. On my car this was a rigid pipe formed into a coil to absorb vibration, but after years of vibrating without me knowing what was causing the noise, it suddenly stopped while on a motorway journey. I thought "thats good, nice and quiet now", but when I next came to use the clutch I didn't think it was quite so good. One learns clutchless gear changing very quickly in such circumstances. There is now a flexible hose in the pipe run. The noise was independant of... MORE

I'm having trouble locating a rattle in my mk3 sprite. Folks: Last night when putting the midget into reverse ... the shift lever appears to have pulled out of the transmission (hidden under the cover, rubber shield etc). Is this a common problem?
