You need a RHD steering rack. This is the same as a LHD Morris Minor Rack they tell me. Yes, the pedal box is a straightforward move, though the high beam switch will need extension wires IIRC... You'll need to make up new clutch and brake lines of course.... Mike "Mike & Kerry Gigante" 952... MORE

I was wondering on how easy it is to convert one of my bugeyes from a left hand drive to a right hand drive (a bugeye to a frog eye)? I know you need a new dash, but can you just move over the pedals and can you just flip over the steering? I am sure someone out there has done the swap. Any one? Thanks, Bob in San Diego "Robert D. Anyway, what type of bushings are best to use when replacing all bushings? 'Prothane', Standard or Polyurethane? Thanks, Reginald I. Hi Everyone, Have seen on the list on several occasions when someone is restoring/refurbishing there 6 spoke steering wheel. However no one actually explains how they restored/refurbished it. My steering wheel is cracked and broken where 2 pairs of the spokes attach to the wheel, and the other pair are broken where they attached to the hub. How would I go about restoring/repairing this, or should I just look into buying a new/used one? Any help would be appreciated. Reginald I. Hi Chaps, Well thanks to all those of you who gave advise on installing the sound deadening panels, carpets and interior panels. After working ALL weekend right up to 00:30 friday and Saturday, I've finished the interior refurbishment, it looks great, sounds superb, and has added thousands to the value...................I wish!!! Anyway, thanks for all the advice, there is just one thing that none of you mentioned and that was that anyone undertaking this work should be aware that at the end of it they will be exhausted, have no skin left on their knuckles, and have bruises to... Hi everyone, I was able to use advice from the list and George Merryweather at Classic Restorations to lower the idle from 4500 down to 2500. Evidently the choke linkage was to tight on the choke cable so was always pulled(the cable probably needs to be replaced or at least lubed, as is hard to actuate) so I completely disconnected it. Now I believe it to be just a synch problem, what do you think? Plus need to adjust mixture still, have experimented but I think I need to go over the manual on that still. It was not... MORE

I'm currently working on refubishing my steering wheel. I ground out the cracks in the plastic and filled them with this really cool two-part resin stuff I got from Eastwood catalouge. My question is, has anyone ever painted a steering wheel, if so what type of paint was used? TimS. Detroit, Mi '63 AH MkII "Summers, Tim" 787... MORE

Hello everyone A little history first I have just put new plugs new wires a new top wire mont distributor cap, new sports coil and an electronic ignition made by pantex (ignitor). On Friday I put on a new rotor for the distributor and then went to start my MG. When I did it turn a little but then did nothing.I thought it might be the battery so I took it up to my local place and they gave me a new one. I placed that in the car and turned the key. Still nothing and there was smoke... MORE

I got the coil that the ignitor suggested. A friend of mine thought it might be the starter that it might of went. I turn the key and the only thing that happens is that the fuel pump turns on and the radio and lights. But nothing happens with the motor. Thanks Jason Gross 1971 Midget "Jason Gross" 747... MORE

The coil was the one that was suggested to go with the ignitor. A friend of mine thought it might have been the starter were it turn and then died and would not turn over or even do anything when you turned the key. It will turn the on the fuel pump and the light and radio. Thanks Jason Gross 1971 Midget "Jason Gross" 746... MORE

Hi Guys If anyone has applied for a Heritage Certificate, could you tell me does this include the original registration number along with engine and chassis numbers? What I am looking for is a document that I can use to prove to the DVLC what the original registration of the car was. Regards Dave edave@... 727... MORE

Jason Stupid I know but was the coil a 12 v one. Lots of modern coils are 6 v or so. When running normally the coil is fed through a resistor that drops the voltage to 6 v. On starting the starter motor switch shorts out the resistor and applies the full 12v for as long as the starter motor turns. This enhances the spark when cranking. Just a thought. Hello everyone Heres the story. I have just recently put in a Pertronix Ignitor with also a Lucas Sports Coil Splite fire plugs and wires along with a new top wire mont distributor cap. It was running ruff but I think it had the tieing off.Today I put a new rotor for the distributor on and then went to start the car. When I did it turned and then that was it. I tested the battery and found it to be low for the 3rd time so I took it back and got a new battery. I hooked it... MORE

Jim Your thinking is about right the rib case box you have should be fine for now but any aggressive use with a good 1380 engine can break them, the five speed option gives a strong reliable set up and gives an overdrive top gear of .82 : 1 this equates to a drop in revs of just under 20% in top compared with the old rib case, as for strength we are now running cars with around 200bhp and not breaking them. As for suspension and brake upgrades if you are going to do a lot of miles... MORE

Jim It really depends on the spec of your engine. I do suspect however that you will end up breaking your 1275 gearbox - they aren't designed to put up with the torque of a 1380... I can't advise on which 5 speed to run as I have no experience with that type of conversion however your gearing will depend on what the 5th gear ratio is. Most 5 speed boxes have a 1:1 4th gear and an 'overdrive' 5th. This means that you will probably be overgearing your car (and thereby losing performance) with a 3.7 - suggest... MORE

Once again I am looking for the collective wisdom of the List. In other words I can't make up my mind (once again) - What type of trans(gearbox) should I put into my rebuilt 59 Bugeye. Currently I have a Gold Seal ribcase (by Unipart -1983) that has never been installed (or out of its original crate) - everything inside the case is brand new (NOS?), including to packing grease. So the gearbox should work as well as any new ribcase can. BUT because I plan on doing so much freeway driving in So Cal (70mph in slow lane),... MORE

I could be wrong (particularly in respect of US cars) but I don't think that a fuel filter is a standard fitment on an A series Spridget. Best place for an in line filter is between the fuel tank and the fuel pump (which is of course 'conveniently placed' under the car next to the right hand rear shock absorber...) I'm redoing the interior on my bugeye (ribcase gearbox), and one of the things I'm replacing is the shift lever. Came out quite easily, but I expected the little plastic cup and spring underneath to come right out as well. Can't seem to figure out to remove them. How do you do it? Do I need to do it, or just install the new lever. Thanks Bob Irwin rlirwin@... 631... MORE

Hi Just to let you know. This is how I fitted the unit. I will upload these instructions to the server. I feel a lot safer now. Drivers round here are an unforgiving lot, they are so used to modern cars where the flashers all go at the same rate I got the impression they thought I kept changing my mind. Headlamp relay all sorted. Dead simple. All the bits bought. Just waiting for it to stop raining and get warmer and I will do it. Just want to make absolutly sure I got it right then I will... MORE

I've JPEG photo'd some shots of the 'Mk2' relay system I made for the '72. Made the wiring loom up from a 1500 loom to suit the odd-ball chassis/engine combination. Would be willing to make up a complete kit of parts to just "plug-in" to a Midget, using new parts ordered from here in the UK if anyone wants one. Also includes fused relays in waterproof cases and a multi-60amp fuse system to help prevent fire in the event of a crash. Cost me about 50 to make the 'super loom' section from the switches all the way to... MORE

Rob, You might know what the little switch under my dash is for . It's located under the bottom lip, to the left of the steering wheel (left hand drive). It's simple on off switch, but the wires were snipped off so I can't tell what it was for. Any ideas? TimS. Detroit, Mi '63 AH MkII "Summers, Tim" 554... MORE
