I bought a new A-H Sprite mkIV shell a couple of years ago from Heritage via Moss. Panels did not align and MIG welds used to fill mis-alignment gaps. The bolts used for the bonnet hinges were 7 AF thread and 1 metric. (Chewed threads in captive nut!) I was not impressed and am fortunate that I have time, garage space, tools and gas axe to enjoy this 'fine example of a Heritage Quality Part'. (For US readers - this is British irony at is best; for Aus readers - this is another whinging Pom; for UK readers -... MORE

Chris The 185 X 60 X 13 tyres will fit but you may have to modify the rear arches a little by jacking them out by around 20mm to be safe, you should be able to get a good idea from your old 175's the 185 is not much wider. The Yokohama O32R is a fantastic tyre, it does have a short life span but grip is great, the only thing I will say is that if your suspension is a bit tired or not uprated you may find the handling a bit snatchy, as the tyres may have... Ted, I have used www.ahspares.co.uk for my quarter panels and the lower section of the rear. For the rocker panels and floor pans Moss Motors. The metal thickness has been excellent in comparison to the replacement parts I have seen for honda's chevy's and fords. I also picked up the spring hanger boxes, and inner and outer bulkhead replacements from Moss. Best of luck Bob Tampa, FL 60 AN5 MTGBRKR1@... 519... MORE

Hi folks, Firstly, thanks to those who gave advice on the compresion test, I shall now try and determine what cylinder head I have. I have now started striping the sprite ready for some body, engine work and respray.I plan on having it all complete in six weeks, and hopefully some of you will be able to see the results during the year. Does any one have any recomendations for suppliers of the best replacement body pannels. Inner and outer sills, spring hangers, bits of floor and front wing etc. The aspects I am considering are quality of fit,... MORE

If you look at the firewall on your car you will see a mirror of the left hand holes and mount points on the right. For instance there is a plug for the steering column, and a large blanking plate for where the clutch/brake masters go. I have a spare ignition lock, that came with the car. But the car is made for the American market, and the spare lock (I guess) is for an Enlish car. The key to the lock that is in my car is 90 degrees to the right of the st eering column, but my spare lock is pointing 45 degrees towards me. Where do I get a lock for an american car here in Norway? Any ideas anyone ? Regards Thorvald "Thorvald" 482... MORE

Hello Jason, I had the same problem. The reason seemed to be contact between steering wheel and dashboard. My mechanic fixed the problem by remounting the dashboard. Christoph Kiesewetter AN-5-L 11245 ckiesewetter@... 477... MORE

Hey Thorvald, I hope that you don't lock the "cat" too often with the steering wheel lock! The RSPCA (Norway eqiv) may get a little upset. Cheers, David PS - Best bet may be to get a good second-hand unit. david8831@... 459... MORE

Hello everyone I pulled my steering hub off last weekend but I have the same problem with the horn. I can not get the horn to work by pushing on the horn push. Unfortunately it will work when you turn the steering wheel and then will not shut off.(It is makeing contact some where) I have a new pin for the contact and the horn and wires are in good shape, also the the contact behind the hub is nice and tight. Any other suggestions from out there? I am at the end and will have to take to... MORE

Does anyone have any information on this Donald Healey Motor Co LTD wood rimmed steering wheel for the bugeye? (see pic) How rare is it? How much is it worth? Ever see one? I've only seen this picture. I am interested in finding one either for purchase or to use for a copy so I may have one or more custom made (reproduction). I am also interested in knowing if anyone else would be interested in a reproduction of this wheel if I were to have them made. Thanks, Steve 1961 Black AN5 Del Mar, CA "Steve and Briana... MORE

Thank you James and Dave, and anyone else who might want to apply 5 minutes of grey matter. The Clutch is definitely 1098. The new Bell housing supplied by Morris Minor, makes absolutely no impact on the clutch, other than the possibility that the pivot point of the release lever (re-using the original Morris) may not be identical to the original. The release bearing makes contact with the thrust bearing even though it appears to be fully depressed toward the fly wheel. The only difference ,as far as the clutch is concerned is a ford driven plate, very slightly... MORE

Sent this out to the Bugeye list also, I am missing everything past the interior lever for the hand brake system on my 59 Bugeye. AH Spares has the cable, but I still need everything else including link rods, link rod lever, all pins and clevises (clevii?), and shoe levers. Anybody got brake parts for sale? Having installed my Ford gearbox into the Morris Minor Van. I am unable to disengage the clutch. When I fit the cluttch cover the Thrust plate appears to pull itself almost all the way in . toward the fly wheel. The Release bearing has been renewed. As has the driven plate ( this is on the right way round) There is no adjustment left on the adjustment rod. ie its wound right up, giving me about 1.5 inches free play on the clutch pedal. On pressing the pedal, there is barely anything left, a little more foot pressure and... MORE

Took steering wheel off my parts car recently - first time in 35+ years - by 1) soaked wheel nut with PB Blaster penetrating oil, 2) tighten down on nut to break corroded grip 3) loosen nut easily after that and pulled off steering wheel. Jason, Back off the wheel nut and spray some type of penetrating fluid (of your choice) on the splines, let sit over night. Back the nut off till it covers the end of the shaft, place your knees behind the wheel rim, place a small piece of board (short piece of 2x2) over the nut (must not touch anything else) and with a hammer give it a sharp rap while pushing the steering wheel towards you with your knees. With one or two raps it should break free. If you have a good deadfall (padded) hammer you can eliminate... MORE

That is probably the hook type. You will have to hook it or your steering wheel some how. I use the bolt on type myself. Spray a little WD-40 or Liquid wrench on the nut and stud the night before you do this. It will make it a bit easier for you to remove the wheel. Also, mark the position before you start. That way you put it back on the same as it came off. When you put it back on, put a little anti-seize grease on the splines, so if you have to do this again, it... MORE

Techie Question - I would like to swap my standard 4.22 differential for something with a higher gearing. I know the later 3.9 is the most common swap but I am interested if the 3.73 differential from the 1500 Midget will go into a rear housing from a Sprite MkII. Would the crown & pinion fit directly into the older rear housing? Is some machining necessary? Or would it be necessary swap the entire rearend and axles? This rearend will be going into my Bugeye, which will be a daily driver when finished. I do a lot of freeway... MORE

Depends on what you mean by 'Sprite'. Bugeyes were made up until 1960. From '58 till '60 they were imported to the states. Last bugeye was produced in Dec '60. You will find some registered as '61's (left over '60's). The Mark II Sprite started in 1961. First in the states were in march/April '61. If you have a square body '60 you probably have a '61-'64 Sprite with a bugeye title and registration plate. Don't understand your insurance companys statement. Two books can prove the case, 'Sprites & Midgets" by Anders Clausager, and "Original Sprite & Midget" by... MORE
