Hi Folks! Greetings from Fairbanks, Alaska I have the opportunity to buy a 1976 Midget Special. It's been sitting on flat tires, and hasen't been started or driven(far as the landlord knows) for a number of years. It's been kept covered, paint's in good shape, interior very good, top has cracks, but there's a new one in the trunk Only one small dent in the right side door, looks like a base ball hit it. All glass is good. What would be a good lo-ball starting price.($ Please if possible) The landlord wants to re-coup money lost from the... MORE
I was asked to pass this along to this list, what do you folks think?? Brad Can you clean up what I am writing here and post this to the Midget Yahoo list please. I am not on it. Any reply's I send there bounce. Subject: The GOLDEN Sprite ***************************************************** Rick Moses, coordinator of the every five years Sprite anniversary gatherings proposed a question......... Why not have, "the list," any individuals, sports car garages and those interested, restore a Bugeye Sprite? When it is completed we can sell raffle tickets for this car and give it away the last... And well you should ask..... Because I didn't know myself 'til the end of the show.........I don't normally watch this channel at all. I happened to surf by it on the way to the O'Reilly Factor, after engergizing the tube upon my return from din/din and a couple of tankards with "the guys". As soon as I saw the title of the show, I instinctively (and quickly) sent a message to the lists (no time for investigation) and got back to the channel and hit the recording device. It's Connecticut Public TV and as both a cable and possible... MORE
I offered this sometime ago. And before it goes to the scrap yard I thought I might mention it once again. I have a 1975 Midget with the title, this is the rubber bumper. I pretty much have it stripped out, although all the body parts are there including the doors, hood and trunk lid,. the fenders are all in good shape, with the exception to the bottom section of the front fenders, which is rusted out. The rocker panels are rusted. Windsheild is there, but glass is bad. I have seen a lot worse cars being restored. If... MORE
G'day Chris etc Your diff (or to give it the full title, differential) was designed to allow one wheel to turn more than the other, when you turn a corner. The outside wheel needs to turn more than the inside wheel, and the centre gears (called, amongst other things, the "planetary" gears) allow for this differential in the rotation of the wheels. A byproduct of the planetary gear motion is that when the tailshaft is stationary, and you turn one wheel forward, the other will move backward at the same rate. Fear not - all is (probably) well. avagoodday... MORE
G'day all I spent a bit of time last week fixing a Mk IIA Sprite just purchased by Duncan, a new customer. He bought it as he had always wanted a Sprite, and it was love at first sight - pretty Sky Blue, nice paint. Now Duncan is 6'3" tall, and in his early fourties. The Sprite didn't run - flat battery, master cylinder just been rebuilt and brakes/clutch not bled yet, no registration, hadn't been driven for 3 years. So he bought it to me to get it repaired and registered. Well by the time we changed the... MORE
0s. You can get a lot of e 'old' 900 (K reg and before). ith the backs seat down. It has been reliable and cheap to insure, true! But, when I said practical I meant a car in which you don't need to wear a blanket over you in the winter, will sit on the motorway at 85mph and will carry surfboards! ********************************************************************** This message is confidential as it contains information about the person we are sending it to. Ahh I see. One of the best bargains around at the moment are pre GM Saabs 900 and 9000s. You can get a lot of SAAB for what you are selling the Midget. I can particularly recommend the 'old' 900 (K reg and before). Fantastic cars that go, handle, last forever and with 6ft of loads space with the backs seat down. Good luck. OK, Reg... Hang in there. At the risk of being a PITA, just confirm you did nothing with the original coil wire hookup or ANYTHING ignitionwise between the period when it was running, you shut it off, did the brake job and tried to start after the brake job was finished...think hard on this. On another facet, you got the little wire/washer vertical stacking sequence (within the distributor) "right" when you eventually did replace the points (important!) and you tried a start with the old condenser prior to substituting a new condenser? Did you previously say your Chilton manual... MORE
Reg... Did you disturb the coil hookup between the time you parked it for the brake job and now? If not, what has changed in this particular respect? Nothing. If the hookup was right then.......? Could the coil have suddenly failed? Sure! What the heck, Reg...you've changed everything else ignition-wise and coils are normally checked by substitution anyway, unless you've got someone with an ignition analyzer around. I would suspect it though were I in your situation. Get an upgraded one while you're at it? Maybe a Lucas "Sport" or MSD "Blaster"? Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 21491... MORE
Dear All, Britfest is coming! It's a one day event, Saturday May 3. I can't go as I have to work, but you should! There were 300+ LBCs there last year. Hi all, We were watching the Wreck Detectives this evening, and one of the presenters was on Gurnsey, driving a red Midget, possibly Mk2, reg no. 5018. They had a fibreglass shell mounted on a separate chassis, which (originally) incorporated the front crossmember/suspension mountings from a Spridget so as to get around the difficulties in registration as a new car. I understand later cars were based on all-new parts. As an aside, one of the members of a 'Scrapheap Challenge' team (the Cat-alysts) is the designer/builder's son and he worked on the project to incorporate the new stuff including K series engines. Cleaned up the two running toys, and went to a local "park and gab"session. No registration fee, no dash plaques, and no judging. Just a chance for anyone with any interest to stop, wander in, and talk about cars. Of course, all the kids come running to the Sprites, and I had more than a few parents hang around and chat for a half hour or better. I was sitting down when a guy and his son came up. The son stood by the 68 and dad went off a few steps to snap a photo. I immediately jumped... MORE
Mr. Holmes. First, I find your comment comparing me to your dog very offensive. Second , I stand by what I said. The ORIGINAL (my capitals) 1920's method w as to Copper plate, then Nickel plate, then Chrome plate. Third, I state that the "Final finish is dependant of the preparation". I consider better press tooling and probably the use of more malleable or duc tile steel is part of the preparation for massed produced parts. For one off restoration of corroded parts then I still insist that the fina l finish is dependant on the preparation Fourth, I... MORE
Dear list, Last night I did some measurements at the inlet-manifold (as I was trying to identify the by Vizard suggested optimisations) and found the diameter on the carb side to be 1.5". I did expect the Carb-side of the manifold to be the same as the carbs (so 1.25"). Could this be the standard (factory fitted) inlet manifold? Could this be a manifold from another A-series engine? It looks the same as pictures / photographs of the standard item, but the large step from Carbs to Inlet manifold doesn't seem right to me...I always thought that transitions ought... MORE

Went and did it. Just bought a 74 RWA. We all know owning a 74 rwa is more important than clothes, shoes and all that other stuff. So what if I will look like a homeless person driving a sport car. Problem now is getting it home. Had hoped to get it started and running enough to drive the 47 miles home but the reason it had set for a year is because the starter died and I did confirm that it is dead not just a sticking pinion gear. All the smog stuff is still on it or... MORE

US Marine writes: "What does that mean?" in response to Pilot Rob's message as to how to identify Larry's house once the general locale of same is known... Pilot Rob, being a philosophical sort to begin with immediately goes "zen" and thinks: ..."what does that mean?".... Hell, what does it ALL mean? What is the reason for man's existence on the planet anyway? Eventually, PilotRob comes back to reality and realizes US Marine is new to the list, and missed the previous "errection" messages as they applied to Larry's new house, in terms of special decorations to his front... If there's one thing this nation needs, it's bigger cars. That's why I'm excited that Ford is coming out with a new mound o' metal that will offer consumers even more total road-squatting mass than the current leader in the humongous-car category, the popular Chevrolet Suburban Subdivision- the first passenger automobile designed to be, right off the assembly line, visible from the Moon. I don't know what the new Ford will be called. Probably something like the "Ford Untamed Wilderness Adventure." In the TV commercials, it will be shown splashing through rivers, charging up rocky mountainsides, swinging on vines,... MORE
