In the 65 Sprite is some type of floor covering, it is stitched to cover the tranny tunnel around the shifter and has heel pads sewn in, so I know it is not homemade. It is gray in color and looks like a cross of felt and scotchbrite. Anyone ever seen anything like this before?? Brad Brad Fornal 14201... MORE

Kevin, Ed an helpful listers, I finally got to spend a couple of minutes with the Midget this evening and the wifey even consented to come out and pump the clutch pedal a few times. Problem is, the pedal wont pump. When you push it in, it goes to the floor and stays there. I pulled it up by hand, filled the MC and wifey pushed it down while l loosened the bleeder on the slave and fluid is making it that far anyway. I took the plate off the pedal box and oiled the heck out of the... MORE

hmm, looks interesting, but once you start adding up the cost of time spent on a dyno to get the advance curve set properly, it's probably not so inexpensive. Also for those of us who drive on the proper side of the road this comment looks a bit worrying "The Hitachi is a bit taller than the Lucas so it gets tight behind the grille on round nose Mini's" - if it's tight on a Mini, it'll be even harder to clear the steering column on a RHD Spridget. I'll stick with my 45D thanks! David "David Jacobs" 14036... MORE

Hello Now that I finally was able to remove the filler plug on my ribcase I wanted to know what is the best oil for it. Mini Mania says straight 30 weight. While haynes says multi vis 20w50 Thanks Mike kna331@... 14012... MORE

Way to stick up for the little guy! I usually brought the lawnmower gas can too and include that in the fill up. I usually run mine down to where it takes about 6.5 gallons to fill up. So the 2.5 gallon gas can works well in this situation at our local stop-n-rob. I like your way of doing it. At least that way you do not have to wait a month in between sodas! So where was the puddle of (brake?) clutch fluid then? If it was on the carpet in the car, then the master is shot. If it was under the car the slave has been liberated or even more likely is that the flexible hose to the slave is shot. Otherwise the Black Widow must have drunk it! Hi everyone, I have for sale an incomplete-project 1971 Midget GAN 5UB 91585G (North American version). Major structural repair work has been done, and I will have it in rolling-chassis config in a couple of weeks, ready for sale. All parts are there, and engine/gearbox are in good shape. Front suspension intact. Nothing missing. Several duplicate components. Car has been in inside heated dry storage since 1985. Approx 45,000 miles from new. Anyone interested? OK...before you all pass out from the oddity of me asking a Spridget question...how about some advice. I bought a new battery for the Midget today. The hot weather is dropping down into the low 90's so it's to start driving the Midget again. Real men don't cre about skin cancer! Got a little adventure added to life while I was changing the battery. I was scrunched over the fiender, head under the bonnet struggling with the posive battery cable when I glanced down (about 6 inched down) at the solenoid and there was the biggest black widow spider... Don, I'm sure you're right about the source of the oil, but there's no way I know of, short of cutting out the tranny tunnel, of replacing it. It's very difficult to remove when you have good access to it. It can be done in car in a Morris, but not in a Spridget. Gerard "gerardchateau" 13884... MORE

On a MK1 Midget can you replace the rear transmission extension oil seal without pulling the engine and transmission? While taking out the carpets for replacement I found the underlayment soaked with oil seeping onto the passenger floor from along the seam of the transmission tunnel where it is spot welded to the passenger floor. :-( I suspect it is coming from the rear transmission oil seal. Haven't jacked the car up yet, but know I have no oil leaks from the engine. Don "Don May" 13878... MORE

Just instlaled a new gas pedal in my '74 midget. This is my first midget and I'm not happy with the pedal shape or location. Has anybody ever cut/welded a pedal to mount on the accelerator link? I was looking for something that would wind up looking/acting like the clutch and brake pedals. I think that type is called a 'floating pedal'. thanks...Bruce "redrider417" 13794... MORE

If you live in the UK there is a swap you can do with a Triumph Spitfire or 1500 o/d gearbox. If you are starting from a 1500 midget the swap is easier than starting from an A series car. However most folk these days (on both sides of the pond and as below) opt for a more modern 5 speed gearbox of which the 5th will be an 'o/d' ratio. Period authenticity of modern convenience, the choice is yours. Geri 67 Sprite with overdrive (the car not me) "G & J Swann-Price" 13681... MORE

Checks the archives for loads of stuff on this but basicaly if your car is a 1500 then yes you can fit a o/d box from a Spitfire (all they are good for) otherwise there are a number of five speed conversions available using datsun, toyota or ford boxes. "Jeremy Cogman" 13655... MORE

Ed in South Dakota... Not a question of compression ratio in my case at all, Ed, and not why I bought unit. The old starter on my just replaced 1098 was drawing vast amounts of current at the time I recently upgraded to the 1293 so, time for a replacement in any event. The GRStarter is smaller (Datsun 210 gearbox "sensitive"...room!), lighter and should about last forever considering how little work it has to do in cranking over my new engine, which only runs 8.3-1 (alum. head) as it was "tailored" for a Judson blower. Brett, A couple of things from my experiences with my 76. First you say there is very little fluid movement when the pedal is pushed. Did you rebuild the master? and could you have put a seal in backwards? The little fluid flow indication is what I experienced when I put a seal in backwards on my brake master. With the seal in backwards, it did push any fluid, but it sure sucked. To bleed my clutch, I remove the slave from the bell housing, insert an old rod into the slave, open the bleed screw and push the... MORE
