This might have been already said in the past but I thought I would pass it along to you folks. I was always have a hard time trying to get my transmission filler plug back onto the transmission. The excess hole is a little to tight to get my hand in there to get the filler plug started. So what I did was picked up a foot long piece of clears plastic tubing which is used for plumbing. ( It is 1.5 inches in size) Slip the end of the filler plug in one end of the pipe and... MORE

DOH!! :) I should read more carefully and stick with Series A types, eh, Alan! ("Yes, Bob, you should"!!) Still, as Peter C. says, "Most carburator problems are electrical" and I'll lay odds that is exactly where the problem is and that your post was "designed" to motivate the lister accordingly in terms of "checking this out". My erroneous post will now make this "unforgetable" in his mind. Thus, this "seed" has been "planted" and "re- planted"!! What's he got, Alan. The OPUS system, Lumenition, or what, and are these subject to deterioration in terms of partial failure? Most... MORE

Pinched from another site. Someone sent this story in: The other day I was in the local auto parts store. A lady comes in and asks for a Seven Ten Cap. They all looked at each other and said, "What's a seven ten cap?" She said, "You know, it's right on the engine. Mine got lost somehow and I need a new one." "What kind of a car is it on," they asked. Now I'm thinking maybe an old Datsun Seven Ten, but no, she said its a MG Midget. "OK lady, how big is it?" She makes a... MORE

"How and where do I check/fill shocks?" Well, Stanley Hill, I am going to leave this to those who still have and run lever shocks. I have not used them for years so we'll let a lister with current use and knowledge answer this one. (Should the vehicle be raised, or not, etc.) I know they are filled to the top of their reservoirs with a special shock oil which is formulated with "anti-foaming" and "seal-sweller" additives. This oil is available from Moss, Victoria British and the other usual suspects. I used to know guys who mixed this oil... MORE

Sure, Stanley Hill- You can counter understeer (or oversteer) to some extent by varying the stock ratio between front and rear tire pressures. The stock Spridget normally runs 2-4 lbs. more pressure in the rear than it does at the front. To counter understeer, we will raise the front pressures, or lower the rear. We will bring the ratio between the two to "even" and probably end up with a little more in the front than in the rear. Which to do. Well, if the back end ride is a little choppy, we'd take 2 pounds out of the... MORE

Ok, Paul, here goes! As your's is a street machine, get new bushings to begin with, of course. Poly and Nylatron will both work and they will stiffen things up but, the ride will become much harsher with these and the poly will squeak and grind in time, no matter what grease you initially use; eventually, the lubrication will "go" (BTDT). Now, if you can live with these sounds, fine. I could not and went back to stock rubber. Handling in all respects didn't suffer much, but ride was much better and it bought the "peace and quiet" back!... MORE

Tim and Mike: Pirelli P4s were very common here as standard for FIAT cars here during ea rly 90=B4s, and it is true they were sticky, pretty soft, good grip, and th at they don=B4t last forever.......LOL !!!!! Just take care they are not very old, and also the way they are "storaged" cos if wrong way many years, they get deformed.... 1955 Jorge Dimitrakis 1973 Midget RWA 1275 1810 Argentina Mike, That sounds like a great deal, I've heard that Pirelli's are "sticky" , they're pretty soft so they stick to the road good. However, I think that... MORE

Hello Folks I was under my 1971 MG Midget 1275 the other night. I have had an oil leak for awhile so I thought it I laid under it long enough I would find were she is leaking. Worse than that, the rubber bumbered cars have a short (<12") rubber hose (near the tranny) that connects the rear metal line to a front metal line to the mechanical fuel pump. Because this piece of hose sits below the gas tank, if it ruptures, it will drain the tank of fuel. This happen to me after a short drive in my '75 and parking it in my garage. I fortunately went down to the garage and discovered a strong gasoline smell discovered a steady stream draining under the car. I had already lost a gallon or two of... MORE

Gerard, The ride height of the 75 looks awful. Is it so that you can drive in the desert , over rocks . cacti ,dead horses etc . I've on;y ever seen a car with such a high ride height when the engine and transmission have been removed. ;o) Regards Alan PS can you send me that annoying soundfile that you have at the beginning of your website please. Do you have a bench vice? If you cannot lift the car up to the workbench try some lateral thinking.....Unbolt it and take it to the car! Clamp the vice jaws to the wheel bearing nut, wedge a pry bar in any handy orifice, grunt and ... well you get the idea. You will either shift the wheel nut or ruin a perfectly good vice! Worked for me anyway! Guy "Guy Weller" 9851... MORE

Considering that 1098's can barely be given away for free (even if it's a 2" main), that trans better be absolutely pristine. Good luck Gerard "gerardchateau" 9652... MORE

Does anyone have an extra tin cover for the 1275 Oil pump I could buy? The 1098 one is slightly smaller and doesn't clear the 1275 oil pump. Mine came with a nice HUGE gash in it due to a separated flywheel bolt. (yikes!) I could weld it up, but I'd prefer an intact one. I'm in Minneapolis, MN Thanks. Curt Curtis L. You're likely to have better luck at an automotive paint supplier. It will probably stick better than what you'll find at WAL-MART. Make sure you clean the interior surfaces well first too. Gerard "gerardchateau" 9622... MORE

Chaps and chappesses, I've got a bit of a problem. I've stripped all the bits off one of the RWA midgets I have. The tub is rusty in all the usual places. The back end has obviously been in a shunt at some time and been replaced with new panels.. I don't want to take on the restoration of this as I have enough on my plate with restoring the other one. I mean restoring not rebuilding with new parts. So what do I do with the rusty bodyshell ??? I' ve also invested in a digital camera and... MORE

I have wonderd about the possible use of the toyota 22r engine/trans swap into midget but never seen it done.Does anyone know of such a swap? How about pix and imfo? "stanley hill" 9570... MORE

not using A series engine, using Toyota 22r series engine. More HP, than 1275, and more reliable, from what I have seen. The engine fits almost perfect. but I was going to use the Datsun 1.4 L but to get parts for that engine is almost impossible. SO, guess I'll have to try, but also have the 5spd for the toy p/u as well, and is smaller. Gonna try it out and will let you know how it goes. "babyblumg" 9551... MORE

The IRA labelled as terrorists? Wonder who done that? Oops must have been the English Government.Couldnt it be that there are Irish people who just want to rid the North of Ireland of an English presence so that they may reunite their country, heal its wounds and live in peace? I think the IRA could more accuratley be called "Freedom Fighters" I do not condone the methods of the IRA but I understand their goals. Protestants and Catholics co exist quite peacefully South of the border and have done for many many years. The British have an awful habit of... MORE

Bob. In Malta they are supposed to drive on the Left, like in England. But mostly they drive in the shade. Can't ever remember cobble stone streets there though. Try and get a bus ride on a 50's bus.Last time I was there that was the only form of public transport- very cheap and entertaining. All bus routes start from Valletta. Get to the Mosta cathedral. A German bomb dropped through the roof during a service, skidded down the main aisle, but didn't explode.a miracle they say.. Just outside of Mosta , towards Bugibba and St Pauls bay ,... MORE
