Dave... Don't have an answer for the gearbox but you can dump the PCV valve and just go straight to the catch can....the PCV valves are meant to be "drawn through". Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 20276... MORE

-Hey Bob coming from a LARGE family (Im the smallest at 5 11 220 I can tell you that I really shuudered when you told this guy to use the windsheild frame to help get in and out. Ive seen my family break some things getting around holding on to things that arent meant to be held on to. SHHH no one tell my wife Im sharing this, but she is as large as I (we are a sight together in the midget lol) But when she first started getting in and out that was her favorite place to... MORE

Yep, Steve... You'll fit with the seat in the full back position. We have plenty of guys on the list who are both tall and wide. Find a Spridet and give one a try as it is easier to fit in them than it it getting in and out. Use the windshield frame to help you in and out. To get in, stick your right foot in while holding onto the windshield frame, then pivot slightly left on your vertical axis and sit, subsequently lifting your left leg up and into the footwell as you pivot to the right... Are you sure you have got the pistons all the way back in? Is the master cylinder full again and the breather on the cap blocked? They can be snug but not that snug. "Jeremy Cogman" 20117... MORE

OK, Jon... Don't forget to put the cap back on the master cylinder after you top it off, finally before taking car out on the road, though. See you tomorrow!! :) Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 20128... MORE

Jon (Purely Classic): The operation goes something like this: Remove wheels and cotter pins and pull old pads...inspect for more or less even wear (we'll assume it's even!:) Inspect rotors for general condition and run-out. (we'll assume no run-out and good condition. Using brake cleaner, spray off pucks and general area. Top off master cylinder with your favorite choice of fluid. Leave cap off. Get in car and slowly push pedal 'til to bring pucks out a little further than they are, but not so far you can't use your favorite tool so you can get "in there" and... MORE

A UK spec one will have the engine painted black. I think emission control spec engines might have had a different colour rocker cover, but that could just be 1500s. The ancillary components are mostly all black too. The unpainted ones include carbs, alternator, cooling fan, distributor (not 100% sure about the water pump) the gearbox on the wiper motor (this could either be natural or painted silver?) Can anyone tell me what the correct paint is for the motor on a 74 Midget and is there any stats on engine componet colors ???? Like whats painted and what is unfinished ect. I dont think so but had to ask. Any help would be appreciated. Also have a 75 body with some parts and will probaly have the motor although no head but has trans I need to get rid of if anyone is interested. body has a good amount of rust althoug its not all trashed Thanks Don "Don" 20064... Interesting suggestion, but I think if I'm going to buy them I may as well stick them on the vehicle. It will be some months before the car is finished so I have some time to search. "Tim R." 20043... MORE

Jason, 12 capsful, more or less, will get the job done. The ratio is not that critical, Jason. Nigel, Can't speak for over the pond but in my mind it's a matter of "style" than what engine is under the hood when talking about the desirably of owning a rwa. Your figures are correct but as pointed out the actual availability of rwa cars is low here compared to others for sale. The demand is higher. It's that round wheel arch not the engine that is the basis for buying one. You would not say the desirably of a bug eye sprite was for the 948 and smooth case trans . . . its those bug eyes... I was always told start with the furthest from the master cylinder when the car has front drum brakes or front passenger side when it's discs (something to do with starting where the total volume of fluid is greatest?) - though with a single line system with the four way fitting I can't really see why it matters either way. Anyone care to explain it? Regards David "David Jacobs" 19914... MORE

Hi everyone Can anyone advise regarding the route the rear brake pipe takes from the front four-way junction to the rear? Does it go under the car or through the transmission tunnel? Regards Chris Howes "howes" 19890... MORE

No1) could be lean mixture No2) can't think of anything else apart from the disc possibly being assembled to the hub with dirt or something in between the parts (it's more likely to be warped though) No3) yes it's stock on a 74 car - to restrain the engine/gearbox in the event of an accident David "David Jacobs" 19876... Don This may not apply to you as I'm not sure if my steering wheel was OE or not, but I'll tell you what happened. As I was working on it, a neighbour popped round and we got chatting - and I explained I couldnt shift that steering wheel no matter what (the nut was off). He looked at it and said - do you have to remove those 4 screws? I replied, I don't think so - I think they're part of the steering wheel. I did remove them, just to see - and off popped the steering... MORE

Don Great, thanks for this. Now to find a 15/16th socket . . . I'm lucky in the sense I have a 1/2" drive handle and a 1/4" drive handle with a 1/4" - 3/8" and 3/8" to 1/4" adapters. I do prefer using the 1/2" one though - it just has that extra ooomph needed to shift stubborn nuts, the 1/4" and 3/8" one is just a little bit too fragile. Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 19870... MORE

Seems I am one large bag of questions lately but . . . no questions no learning. Question #1. When I let up on the gas as the engine decelerates it is miss-firing. .. popping . . . is that an indication that the timing is too advanced or retarded ? Fuel octane? Or other ? ? ? Question #2. A front brake disk has a lot of resistance against the pads during only part of the wheel rotation. Any causes other than disk warp I should check? Question #3. On the 74 there is a tubular bar about... MORE

As Brad said, follow the clutch line back from the slave and eventually you will find the leak. The fluid is leaking somewhere and, nasty stuff that it is, it could be doing damage to something else. It strips paint much better than most of us are happy with. Incidentally, it is difficult to apply pressure to the clutch pedal when you have your head in the footwell, so have someone do it for you with a piece of wood or similar, but try it first so that there is no danger of it slipping off and doing you... Fluid was disappearing from the clutch master cylinder reservoir, resulting in no pedal pressure and an inability to shift. There was no obvious signs of leakage, just missing fluid. After topping up the reservoir, I could shift again. This happened twice, then topping up the reservoir failed to solve the problem. Suspecting leakage past the seal in the master cylinder, I rebuilt it; then bled the system. The result: no pedal pressure, and still no leaks. Next I replaced the slave cylinder, which showed signs of leakage past the cup, but not the boot. Bled system, but still no... MORE

And incidentally, Sam... I just heard from Paul Asgeirsson of Morriservice who also does Datsun 5 speed conversions. While I knew he handled the cables he also, evidently, has the capability to match the speedo to the gearing, whether stock or modfied with respect to accurate speedo readings, a fact I was not previously aware of. Granted, I only have a Bugeye, but while ROTFLMAO, the only way I can think of looking around inside the bell housing is with a *********** that the doctors use for a colonspotkie (I never said that I could spell). I think the inspection hole is on the top, right under the dash, or you have the clutch hole, where it is difficult to bleed or even tighten the bolts to the slave cylinder. Sounds to me like something is not in line. Have you compared the old springs to the new springs and measured the distance of the axle location in the old vs. the new? Try that. It seems to me like the rear end is closer or even possibly farther away from the transmission that it was previously. If the noise seems to come from the area where your shifter is My guess is that has something to do with the drive shaft how are the U joints on the drive shaft? Happy for a bit of advice here guys! In my part of the world a midget/sprite 1275 engine is almost unobtainable and my 59 frog could do with some more power. What are my optiones, i have heard that a Morris Minor engine is a straight forward bolt on, no problems. I have also heard that a Morris Marina is very suitable, the flywheel is slightly different (fitted with 4 screws instead of 6) and the backplate is no good and should be exchanged for either a Minor or Midget. Might be something with the clutch fork as well.... MORE
