Jeremy, et al. Any good machine shop should be able to make you a set of bushings for your pedal pivot points. I have made numerous bushings for other applications out of a porduct called (in the business) Oil-lite (sp)......it is a medium hardness red brass alloy impregnated with oil. We have used it here at the plant for years for babbit type bearings on applications much more demanding than our brake pedals. Just my tuppence worth. David A. Hi guys is this the same group i left, some 2 yrs ago. well im back at my sprite now. anyway just started stripping it to replaace the 2nd cill, and also fitting a 5 speed gear box while at it. So while the engine is out im looking to boost power. ie free flow exhaiust , hi lift cam. & poss hi lift rockers . i intend reusing the twin HS4 carbs but fit k & n Filters. If we all just use the same last name, wear cowboy hats and somehow all fit into the Spridget, I'll bet somebody in Texas or San Francisco will let us stay for free, just to get us out of sight of their regular customers. The last time I was in San Francisco the desk clerks asked me to say Ya'll and Awl (oil) for them everytime I came into the lobby. Bill, When you say 'Gold' do you mean yellow (Yellow Ochre in BL-ese) or brown? (Autmn Leaf) In 1973 the interior colours changed from black and Autumn Leaf to Navy and Yellow Ochre so you might have either. I'm not 100% sure of which body colours had which interiors as I've lent my Original Sprite and Midget book to a guy in work. The colours available over this period (and my recollection of which interior colour they came with) were: Black (Autumn Leaf or Black/Navy, never Yellow Ochre?) Glacier White (Aut. How about the Californian gets flown to London to meet Jeremy who drives him about Great Britain for a week before we meet up with Jim who carries the tool box as we all fly back to San Francisco where of course I will have to show them around for a week or so before we take the roll bar to Texas to install it. Does anyone have any idea where I might find a roll bar for a '63 Sprite? I'm not going racing or anything like that, I'm just trying to recreate the look of a car that I had in college. I'd like to be able to put the top up if I have to.(though I haven't yet) Everything I've seen is for later models. HI Jack, I have one that I removed from my 63 MK1 which to the best of knowledge would be the same as for the 63 Sprite. Check group photos in folder "Don May" to see my 63 before I took the roll bar off. Is that what you remember yours looking like? Have no idea where you would find a new one. Perhaps someone else on the list will. The top does fit over it. Should you not find one locally contact me off list an perhaps we can work something out. Not sure how a person goes... MORE

Actually pure water would in theory work in a hydraulic brake system, but has some practical disadvantages! It boils at too low a temperature. Boiling hydraulic fluid creates gas (steam) which is compressible so your brakes go spongy. It would also cause rusting of cylinder walls, pistons etc. It wouldn't lubricate the rubber parts as well. So although it would work, it wouldn't be much good. DOT 4 will actively attract and absorb moisture over time, but when under pressure the absorbed water will unabsorb back into water droplets, cause rusting, turn to steam and become compressible. There was a thred a little while ago where the subject of DOT 4 brake fluid was discussed, especially brands other than Castrol GTLMA. Here is a short list of the other brands of DOT 4 that are available: 1)Radiator Specialty (also known as Gunk / Solder Seal) M45-12 or M45-12/6 (12 oz.) It's been sitting on flat tires, and hasen't been started or driven(far as the landlord knows) for a number of years.
