I think the term machine screw means one with a parallel thread ( unlike a
woodscrew which tapers to a point)
A setscrew is a thing that looks like a bolt, but the thread extends the
full length of the thing.
I don't claim to be any sort of an expert. It is an engineers' world, now
largely lost except perhaps in some very old-fashioned engineering
workshops.
