not necessarily for frame structual strength per se, but to avoid
"distortion"
of the top of the windshield frame in terms
of it's possibly becoming "unsealed" from
the top of the windsheld when the
convertible top is fastened to same and
"pull up" force is exerted to the top of
the windshield frame, accordingly.
This is especially so with tops which
are initially fitted "taughtly" be begin
with, considering under normal use
they shrink bit over time and use when
exposed to the elements.
