I'm assuming you didn't replace the inner and outer sills?
If it were me, I would probably cut right back to the inner sill, and
not bother to butt or overlap weld the floor to the existing piece,
but weld directly to the inner sill.
I wouldn't be happy butt welding that length of steel, even though
the MIG is supreme for lack of distortion - you will get some on
that kind of length - that's also a heck of lot of seam welding to
do.
Cut it back to the inner sill, and butt the new floor to the inner sill -
you'll save yourself a lot of grief and welding and get a neater
smarter job in the process.
