Jens, look in the photos section . In the RESTO SHOW album. Two Frogeyes , the blue one with the supercharger is not actually Iris blue, but everyone thinks that it is **. I think its as good as if not better. ** All Is this how the confusion over BRG came about, people using a generic name to describe what they got, I don't know what Leaf green or Aintree green is but if you said British Racing green I'd have a good idea of what you meant.? The stud pattern is the same for early Metros, but I'm not sure when it changed. If you're talking 13" ones from a GTA or Advantage they might be after the change point. Early Turbo 13" ones should fit. The offset is different so you might get clearance problems unless you use spacers. Regards David "David Jacobs" 28552... MORE
can't be certain, but I suspect it should. The late ital 1275 engine (also an A+) will fit. I know the MG Metro turbo cyl head fits! Still looking for one of them to turbo my Mk1 Sprite with. (along withe the pistons, manifolds carb and complete ignition system.) anyone know of a rotten but running Metro turbo? Stewart "Ford Prefect" 28144... MORE

Brad There are always exceptions aren't there! Like the heap of rust with an original supercharger under the bonnet or genuine Healey front disc brake conversion or one of the 'Sprinzel' specials! That's what so fascinating about this 'hobby' you never know what you're going to find. Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 26903... MORE
Thanks Nigel, Yes, sentimentality does enter into it. My father gave me this Sprite as a high school graduation present some 23 years ago. He actually gave it to me in pieces, and we rebuilt it together, which brought us closer, considering I was living with my mother after their divorce. So it's not just a car, it's a family heirloom! In the last three years I have installed performance suspension front and rear, uprated brakes, Weber, and LCB exhaust header. Now the drivetrain is out to rebuild the engine and install the Datsun 5- speed. Looking more closely... MORE
Bob.... Go with an alcohol/water mix (60/40) and I am quite sure you could run up to 8psi boost on 9.4 with no problem but, you're gonna be far better off running both the foregoing along with an ignition retard system or, limiting advance to something like 24 degrees on a regular mechanical advance distributor considering the best you can get in terms of pump fuel will be 98RON unleaded. MSD makes an excellent boost retard ignition system and I am sure Aldon over there has some ideas in this respect as well which may very well consist of... MORE
if im building a midget metro turbo but want to keep the boost to 7/8 psi and use an intercooler and aquamist 1s water injection could i use the comp ratio of 9.4:1? and remain well under detonation level? what would be the best way to build this engine or which engine midget/marina etc would be best to use for this application? the reason for the higher comp is i still want good half throttle fuel economy which ignition system would people reccomend for this too? thanks for using everyones vast knowledge rob "Robert EADES" 26378... Hi, Gerard... Good to hear from you....glad you are doing OK and hopefully, things will get better with seniority as you stay longer and move up the ladder. Meanwhile you're earning a (hard earned) buck until maybe an opportunity presents itself in your real field. But yes, as least you've got an income in the meantime and as far as jobs go, it's a seller's market for sure so I too, would consider myself fortunate in your position. Hummer did it right but......... ...a rollover stability system is much needed on SUV's from the two accidents I've seen in... MORE
Ed... This is strictly a matter of density altitude or to put it differently, the amount of air molecules per cubic foot of.....air!! The air at 10,000 feet is much "thinner" than the air at sea level...it is much "lighter" per cubic foot. Fr'instance, at sea level a cubic foot of air weighs 14.7 lbs. It weighs half of this at an altitude of 18,000 feet. The adiabatic lapse rate (temp. change per thousand feet) and it's humidity figure into this but we'll ignore these for now. So for the volume of air taken in at 10,000 feet, you... MORE
My guess would be "Yes", Bob... With ALCOHOL/water injection. Stock HC 1275's run only 8.8-1 and the Turbo Metros ran higher. They also had forged pistons but the stock Spridget piston while cast, is a pretty strong item as they take low pressure supercharging (with appropriate 100RON gasoline) without a problem. This would be up to 7psi. Intercooling makes a big difference but alcohol/water really "brings back" the leaded 100+RON octanes of yesterday. This stuff injected in appropriate amounts really cools down the combustion process. The Turbo Metro head uses the larger 1.4 intake valves I think. For more... MORE
the engine needs rebuilding at the moment as it burns a little oil when reved out of gear - slightly blue, i dont think i will be able to turbo it at the moment because im 20 (= stupid insurance), so would like a build which is a good investment for power later down the road and i think turboing is a good, reliable (cheapish) way to this any ideas on how to do this wisely without wasting (too much) money? has anyone tried avonbar self build kits, are these hard to put together? cheers Rob "Robert EADES" 25775... If it did it would be the first turbo lump to have a higher compression than the NASP version. Forgot to say the pistons are Forged not cast. Stewart "Ford Prefect" 25772... MORE
Turbo head is not very different to the standard 1275 head. You will need the turbo pistons though. This will lower the compression ratio. they are also forges rather than cast and as such stronger Stewart "Ford Prefect" 25769... MORE
if i was to use a metro turbo on my midget, changed to a turbo head and used and intercooler and water injection would i be able to use the standard compression ratio or would this melt the engine? cheers Rob "Robert EADES" 25764... MORE

Hi, Tim.... I was in the same predicament when I picked up my BE. Like you, I hate drilling through the car's panels and creating holes where there were none. On my PO'd '74 Spridget the holes were already there and a blacked out Baby Turbo went beautifully with my two-tone semi-gloss black and metallic medium blue Maaco paint scheme! But like your car, the BE had no side mirror to begin with. So what I did was have fabricated a mounting plate for a spun aluminum Raydot, encompassing two holes drilled in the plate which utilized the already... MORE

"Aldon Distributors" Aldon did a PerTronix equipped 45D mechanical curve for my 8.3-1 motor, based upon a planned (Judson) 6psi boost curve. Less than $300 including shipping. Bill Perry got the dizzy. In checking it on a distributor machine, it did not match the written curve provided. Bill shipped the dizzy up to me in CT so Pete Sachs guys could check it out on their machine(s). Sure enough....wrong curve. Shipped it back to Aldon after trading e-mails. Returned in a heartbeat with the "correct" curve...Aldon paid all shipping costs (by Air..both ways). Morals: 1.Check this part as you... MORE
Believe me, I am no fan of Japanese cars in general but... I now own both a Midget and and Miata. And I lap about seven seconds slower in the Midget. And for the $3k that APT wants for a "warm" 1275 I can buy another Miata or a supercharger. Sure, you throw enough money in a Midget and it could beat a Boxster, but the point for me is bang for the buck. A $4k Miata will beat a $4K Midget. BTW both are a kick to drive. Jay Shaffer 22743...
