The column does not need to be removed, but it needs to taken loose so that
it can be extended and dropped down. Otherwise tou will not have the
clearence for the back screws in the cowl, and probably not enough clearance
for the cowl itself. It is not that big of a job once it is examined. I'm
guessing about eight bolts total.
