G'day all Well this guy describes this as: 3000 MkI MkII MkIII Sprite Healey bugeye bj8 bn1/bn2 and it isn't, but isn't it wonderful? Someone must want to buy it! Can't you just see it with a small block Chevy and air suspension? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Very-Early-Austin-complete-rolling-chassis-Vintage-part_W0QQitemZ7989430709QQcategoryZ33615QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Now this is an incredible item. It is a blanking plug that replaces the distributor. WOW, just think how long each tank of gas will last! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7989275125&category=72205&rd=1 avagoodday Colin "Colin Dodds" 37990... MORE
I need to fix my dangling wiper stalk. The plastic block that it sets into has cracked more or less in half. The broken piece is gone. I can set the stalk in place "just for show" but can't use it. So then, short of replacing the whole thing (which would be a bit of overkill as the thing would work fine if I can just get it to stay in place) I figure I will need an adhesive that can: - be thick enough to mold into a shape. - be strong enough to tolerate the stress involved... A big-time lawyer from New York City went duck hunting in rural Texas. He shot and dropped a bird, but it fell into a farmer's field on the other side of a fence. As the lawyer was climbing over the fence, the very elderly farmer on whose property the duck had fallen drove up on his tractor and asked him what he was doing. The lawyer responded, "I shot a duck and it fell in this field, and now I'm going to retrieve it." The old farmer replied, "This is my property, and you are not coming over here."... MORE
Hi, Jed! I live in a nice neighborhood, and my `79 Midget is garaged. However, I sometimes park in less than desirable areas and I have had issues with young jerks throwing beer cans, McDonald's waste, etc. into the cockpit of my car if not covered with a tonneau - in broad daylight in mall parking lots, etc.!! Also had a radio stolen once (before the car was garaged). The idiots tore open the top with a knife to crawl into the cockpit and ripped out the entire console. Radio was a Blaupunt with a "code," so it was... MORE
Hi, Appolgies for a simple question but I'm a novice :) I've just damaged my back trying to locate the fuel pump on my '73 Midget. I believe pump may be faulty. (Car won't start & no "ticking sound" from rear end when ignition is first turned on. Thanks "johnco89" 37874... MORE
Hello all, I have a running MG Midget convertible, in excellent condition, that I love to death but am really needing to sell. I bought this car on Ebay last year, but have never driven it openly (by which I mean on public roads), had it insured, or had the title put in my name (I suffer from lack of funds). My brother has driven it, and says it handles quite well... the only defects we know of are: a minor hole in the exhaust pipe, a broken parking brake, and a leak in the braking system near the... Anybody any ideas on the best way to paint alloy castings? I need to repaint the alloy (zinc alloy?) castings on my steering wheel boss and am not sure what surface preparaion it needs to make sure the paint stays on! "Bruce" 37862... MORE
This is a group intended for the sole purpose of chat related to British cars. In general it has stayed on that subject, with a few digressions. I myself have posted non-relevantly, including earlier today, and it is correct that I should not do so, instead reserving my off topic comments for another forum...nevertheless, I feel compelled to respond to your rant in response to one of our Brit members. You are way off base, both in directing your venom in this way, but even moreso because you have put forth falsehoods to support your emotionalism. You state that... MORE
First, have you converted to negative earth? If not, you may well have some trouble with this! For the connections, the easiest way is to see if you can find a post '85 Metro or 1.3 Maestro in a scrapyard (shouldn't be too hard - can't be many running still!) and cut the relevant bit of the wiring loom off, with moulded one-way connector still attached. Hopefully, it should have a black wire (earth), a white wire (coil +ve or SW terminal) and a white with black tracer (coil -ve or CB terminal). Hope this helps. Regards David "David... MORE
You building a "Town/Country" or "Highway" driver, Bruce? ALL ELSE BEING EQUAL..... "60"overbore will pull up low end torque (increases compression ratio) whilst increasing "revability" (more "square" bore/stroke numbers) As can be seen, the foregoing improvement lends itself automatically to a "hairier" cam quite nicely (without compromising the low end). The question is "how hairy" for your specific application? Thus, the initi al question at the top of the page, Bruce. Vizard's book contains an excellent description of many "grinds". For town/country, the numbers associated with an MD266 give a nice general improvement all-around with slight emphasis on mid-rang... MORE
I recently bought a truck bed from a 60-66 Chevy longbed pickup. The truck bed had been converted to a general purpose trailer, in fact I towed it home from AZ. I am only interested in the side panels which I will be removing soon. That leaves a very solid 8'-9' chassis for a heavy duty trailer. You just need to add flat base (plywood?). If someone is interested in making themselves a solid (and very cheap!) trailer for towing (race car, trailer queen, motorcycles, etc) now is their chance. First person interested & picking it up can have... MORE
G'day guys There is a Mk I Midget steering wheel for sale on eBay. It is in horrible condition, but that is reflected in the price of $5 and it is repairable. Since it's different to the Bugeye wheel and rare as rocking horse excreta, one of you should grab it. Michael, you should buy it for your car. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4560502892&category=34200 avagoodday Colin "Colin Dodds" 37768... MORE
or better yet, get a steel rule, and push it down alongside the headrest pillar till it releases the spring thing that holds it in place. (I can't remember if it's behind or in front of the pillar, so you might have to experiment!) David "David Jacobs" 37761... MORE
I have a 75 which was the first year electronic ignition was available. My car was a basket case when purchased. I put in a new solenoid and installed an aftermarket ignition box either Pertronix or Mallory (I forget which) as I was so new to it at the time I had the work done. That fixed things. It's probably a good idea to replace the solenoid on principle (they're inexpensive) and see where that gets you. IF that doesn't help I would recommend putting in a new ignition module and coil. It's more money but you can forget... MORE
Hi, I am a new MG owner and know NOTHING about them. Mine does not run... Was told it ran great last fall, but it had an over heating problem. Engine cranks, but has no spark at the coil. When testiong for power at the positive side of coil it shows none... so I ran a hot wire from the battery to the coil and it started... but only ran less than a minute and it stalled... tried to restart and it had no spark... I disconnected the power wire... rehooked and it started again for a few seconds.... MORE
Ah, gotcha'. The problem is one cyl only, the others are fine on bore size and make no noise. The slappy cylinder has good compression, 155 psi, and it doesn't show any smoke or use oil. The only problem, at the moment anyway, is the noise. Maybe it's only an aesthetic thing, but it bugs me. Not enough however to justify a rebore and new pistons (and while it's apart, mains and rods and thrust washers, and might as well do a valve job, and while I'm at it, how 'bout an Al head, etc.) I digress. Here's what... MORE

Now cars with disc brakes on the front have a wheel cylinder with two pistons, affixed to the backing plate by means of a C-clip, and the hand brake lever is totally seperate and operates on the brake shoes not the wheel cylinder. Does this describe what you have? There are a number of manufacturers of these wheel cylinders - some use normal rubber cups, some use your Polo mint seal. There are even different versions of the Polo mint - same OD but different ID, depending on the whim of the manufacturer. The one thing they all have... MORE
G'day Phil It is important that the mounting bolts remain loose, and the bushes able to rotate, until you have the car back on the ground. Then tighten the bolts. In operation, the bush doesn't rotate, rather the rubber flexes. Under load on the ground is the "neutral" position. If you tighten it when the car is in the air, the bush will already be under stress when you drop the car to the ground, and it will not survive many miles. This applies to all suspension bushes, both front and rear, on all model Sprites and Midgets. avagoodday... MORE
Another thought on the roll bar is its possible benefit in a T-bone collision. It would offer at least a little more protection from someone who crashes a stop sign and nails you in the side. I have yet to see a spridget with side air bags. Nelson "Nelson Wittstock" 37391... MORE
Just reinstalled the engine in my car this morning, and this worked well: Attach the RH engine mount and bracket to the engine, and the LH engine mount and bracket to the car. Leave all bolts just finger tight until the engine is back in place as you will have to jostle things about. When everything is in place to suit, tighten up all nuts/bolts. If your car is RHD, reverse the procedure. "joe blxfstz" 37363... MORE
Since I have/Drive one of those un-civilised frogeye's, W/5 speed, I will take a stab at two of your questions, the RPM shouldn't be one of them because yesterday I was doing 70 at about 3500 RPM's. Your Oil Pressure sounds ok for a used engine. If during the 16 years it was down, you rebuilt it..... Not good. You might want to check the crankshaft bearings for excessive wear or the crank being oval. My 1275 runs 60-70 at 2-5,000 RPM, 50-60 psi at idle, but mine was rebuilt 1700 miles ago, not just the engine, the whole... MORE
I finally have my 1500 back on the road and am able to drive it agian after 16 years of having it in bits. I have a number of questions, some are 1500 only and some will be relavnt to late 1275. First one, What RPM is 60MPH? My car is alagedly giving 60MPH at 4K RPM in 4th gear, given I was on the motorway keeping up with traffic and overtaking some of it I am not convinced it is reading right! at points it was reading close to 70, others lower than 60, but the revs remained... I have acquired a set of front cylinders, brake drums, shoes, and hub off an A40 Farina. I'm told these work well on the spridget as they give approx 50% more braking area. Apart from the A40 drums and shoes, what other A40 bits do I use eg wheel cylinder, hubs etc. Can anyone advise on any other reasonably priced front suspension mods?
