Jeremy Quite correct; and you're about the only person to actually 'see' the point I'm trying to make, which is whatever colours were applied in Australia bear no relevance whatsoever to colours applied elsewhere in the world, because those colours were only used in the 'Australian' market. You could pretty much claim that Frogeyes were painted green with yellow spots in Australia - no-one else in the world would really care. But to claim that BRG is an 'official' Frogeye paint scheme is wrong for three reasons, firstly because if it was used in Australia how is that relevant... MORE
Hey group. I think its time to pass my beloved 62 midget onto someone else. But only after Don May gets first refusal!... I'm not in a panic to move it, but i would like to see it go to a good home. Its photos are in the album section under 62 midget... its an original 948 side curtain model with a very new (under two weeks) rebuilt head. it has very nice seats, good dash, everything works, including the windshiled squirters. the hand brake needs adjustment and it could do with a brake bleeding or the very least... I too was out in a junkyard today looking around. I went to the junk yard because they said they had some leather fiero seats. I did not find any of those, but did run across a beautiful 79 Midget with NO rust and a perfect interior. Motor was out of a triumph and did not run. Come to find out, the car is a friend of the body manager's car. It's not for sale, but instead, it's in transit into a different storage place. Too bad, this car is showroom shiny, and that's with the original paint job.... MORE
Hello all, my Dad's '72 Midget is stuck in reverse. I had been trying to get the reverse light switch to work and had some measured success, but now things have gone horribly awry. The little plunger that pops up to activate the light switch doesn't seem to be popping up anymore and the little jewel won't shift at all. When I let out the clutch it'll back up just fine. It seems as though the first-second gate is working, but when you stick the lever in either position, the transmission locks up solidly. The lever won't move over... MORE
Colin I wasn't counting the cars shipped out as 'kits' ;) And as far as I'm concerned, BRG was never an OE colour for cars either built for the home market as RHD, or shipped to the US as LHD. And as the person in question received one of the LHD exported cars to the US, BRG would NOT have been an OE colour for it. And to confuse things even more.... My book (Guide to Purchase and Restore the MG Midget & Austin-Healey Sprite) lists 2 BRG, a Medium Dark Green as GN25/ RM BM079 / DITZ 43342 for the Midget & MGB 64-70. The second is listted as a Medium Dark Yellow Green GN29 / RM BM078 / DUP 8194 also for the Midget & MGB 64-70 & MGC 67-69. An original Bugeye sales brouchure lists a Leaf green available with a black or white hood. I don't have any futher listing as to what "Leaf Green" is/was. Bob, Troutdale, OR "Robert Webb"... MORE

Alex Bugeye's never came with British Racing Green as a colour option. The closest 'original' colour you'll find to BRG that is 'original' to the BE is Dark Green or Leaf Green for your year of car (Dark Green to Jan 59, Leaf Green thereonwards) The paint code for that is GN15. If you really must have BRG, try GN29 which was used on the Sprite MKII and III. Nigel... My guess is the car was solid and there wasn't much to be spent on the "restoration". If it runs (and is as solid inside) as it looks, this is a beautiful original car. Let's see if it reaches 15k by closing. Wouldn't be surprised. Local BMW/Volvo dealer had a similiarly restored BE ('59) with good w/w's in his lot about a year or so ago, asking 13k. G'day Terry I think Trevor could be on to the problem. It sounds like you are fitting the clips upside down. There is no way the two "ears" should hit the bodywork - they will face out from the body at about 45 degrees. The flat side of the clip should be flush with the body. If you are fitting them upside down, a small washer will not help - the trim will be loose after it is fitted. And I certainly would not suggest sliding the trim on - you are guaranteed to scatch the paint. The scratch... MORE

Chuck: Many years ago (about 1967 I think) I had a bugeye and wanted a forward tilting front end. I simply removed the hinges and swaung the unit up and forward on the latching bar that engages the holes in the frame. I think I had to remove the front bumper. I didn't use any latch downs for the unt. The weight held it in place. Probably not acceptable in these lawyer happy days but did just fine in the good old days! Trevor J. I am using the original Spridget gearshift lever with aftermarket black leather- wrapped gearshit knob topped with a metal disc AH emblem. Picked it up many moons ago from Sports and Classics. Standard aftermarket part also comes in Walnut as well. I am still struggling with the clips that hold the chrome strips on the sill of my 1972 RWA midget. Now on my 5th lot. Can any one help? The clips have a rounded edge and a bent up one. The bent up one has two ears folded down. I think you fit them with the rounded edge uppermost. Then the bottom lip of the trim goes under the bent up edge and you force the upper lip over the rounded edge so it springs over it. BUT when I put the clip on the sill the ears on... MORE
Nigel, I had exactly the same problem with the bumper mount and I still have not decided weather to make or buy new tubes as I have no seen them in Moss etc . Can you tell me if you made them or where you got them please. There's been very few nuts/bolts/screws I havent been able to remove using =3D=0D heat and brute strength, but I guess heat is not really an option on the windscreen frame - further fuelling my concern. Wes, there should be a stop pin (part number AHA 7703) that one of the mechanism arms butts against; in addition, originally there was a sort of 'U' shaped strip of steel (part number AHA 7431) that fit in the bottom of the door. I think it had felt or foam stuck to it, so it could absorb moisture to encourage rusting better! Regards David "David Jacobs" 29404... MORE

Greetings Group, I humbly seek the advice from them that know, being a new Midgeteer with little knowledge of the animal yet. It seems the steering column on my 1974 MK III has collapsed. I believe they have crushable gubbins inside and mine have been crushed by the PO removing the steering wheel with a mallet! However I have sourced a refurbished column which will be fitted in the next couple of weeks. It seems pretty straight forward, which worries me, there must be a catch! Nigel, I am very afraid to post any pix you could see. The car is in three colors of paint plus the original Brookland green. (Seeing what looked best, ya know). I have lowered the front with 1275 springs but not the rear just yet. I'm running American Racing Mags 5.5 inches with 165 x 70 tires. I've cut off the front bumper supports and sold off the rubber bumpers. The interior is new and pretty well sorted out. McGee runs and drives well except for my often mentioned clutch problem. I will be pulling the engine this spring... MORE
Hi, My local scrapyard has a set of twin SUs fitted to 1500TC Triumph saloon - same engine as the 1500 Midgets. They are at the moment still on the car, complete with manifolds and linkage and I think it is all there. There is some surface corrosion - white oxidation - but this would clean off easily.
