Yes and no, most of them were just painted silver and black, but some were available chrome and black as optional extras. However, it's not advisable to have old wheels (or any stressed component eg suspension arms) chrome plated as it can make them brittle. Whatever! I didn't leave the bugey group, had too many people write to me and tell me to just put up with you guys. Some people have an interest in the cars and what others are doing to them, other are just jealous. About luxury cars, doing a nice job on my seats, adding air bags to the suspension and triangulating the rear end not only makes for a great ride and great looks, but makes it handle unbelievably well. the '75 on cars have extra 'chassis' rails running from the wheelarches back to the rear panel, compared with your 74. Apart from this, they are pretty much the same. I'm not sure what the carpet you have in mind looks like, but it looks like you'll might end up modifying something anyway, so it might be cheaper and no more difficult to get straightforward automotive carpet off the roll and make your own. Ian - I do not believe the doors, or any other piece bolted to the car, are structurally necessary or else, over time, you would not be able open the doors due to body sag. I refuse to warranty this statement, but as long as you support the frame in a fashion similar to the suspension, the frame should not sag with the doors removed. I'm so proud of myself...I'm sitting here patting myself on the head because I can't reach my back. After nearly a year of my poor little car sitting on jack stands with the front end in the air, I finished the assembly of the front end with poly bushings, new lever shocks and springs. My cousin Donald in Irving is having a problem with his 1997 Ford F150 pick 'em up truck. It's a V-6 and after driving about 15 minutes, his #3 cylinder starts to miss. He's changed plugs, wires, and now was attempting to change the coil. On these trucks the coil and dist. cap are made in one unit apparently? Anyway, he got a replacement coil and enstalled it and no joy, the truck would not even start. Put the old one back on, it runs but misses after 15 minutes. He went back to the auto supply and got... Frequently, people jack and adjust the alignment to the doors fit perfectly, then carefully weld a piece of pipe or angle iron from the front of the door opening to the rear, just tack it in, on both sides and then form an "X" from the front of one door opening to the rear of the other door opening and visa versa. Would not hurt to tack these two pieces together where the "X" crosses also. Then before doing anything else, re measure and or fit the doors in place to double check a perfect fit. With out the... It has sagged more with the sills off but there was some sagging before i removed the old sills. The doors were not lining up properly when i got the car. I have done a combination of jacking the car under the floor and jacking up the top of the bulkhead to get the alignment correct. This is no easy feat as it required a lot of patience to get it right! Adam, Bumpers and attachements add about 150-170 lbs. to the extreme ends of the car. In addition, ride height was raised about an inch in '75 with taller springs. As you may imagine dropping the weight and changing the ride height back could make a noticeable difference. RBH, You are a master of explanations as well as BE crazy. My rubber bumper car was converted to disc wheels and no bumpers at all. The rear end IS the tricky part. I considered two approaches:1) Have a body shop do it or 2)take a mold of my buddy's RWA section under the tail lights and make up a fiberglass piece to replace the flattened area. Use the folded over metal in the flat area to secure the new pieces and bondo 'em in. There isn't as much material removed on the rubber bumper cars as it appears... MORE
The front end is the easy part, it's the back end that's hard to do properly, as it involves cutting the rear panel out. I have seen a few that have been half done and the back of the car looks awful, would look better with the rubber bumpers still on. I should introduce myself. My name is Jim and I live in the great pacific northwest, near Seattle, WA, USA. I have a '73 Midget that I have owned since 1987. It has seen little use since the mid '90's for a number of reasons but it is currently in the "state" of being rebuilt (well, it has been in this state for a couple of years now).
