Whats up Roger I found that the steering wheel isnt the main problem. Its my frickin long legs and my propensity for wearing work boots. After removing the steering wheel I found that it made it easier to get out but I still hit my boots on the front edge of the door opening on the way out. Im hoping that the modification that Im making to the bulkhead just behind the seets will help even more. True, True Alan EJ!! When I had "60 series" on my PO'd Spridget it was much more difficult to push and "continue". Obvious increase in rolling resistance for sure. Way more! And they were the softer "008 R's" to boot and inflation pressure was on the low side also considering the size of the footprint (oversize, really!) and the very stiff ("sport") suspension of this car as well. Had to make some sacrifices for "ride" considerations on public road surfaces. But man, on a smooth road this car had "grip" along with fantastic "turn in" (12" steering wheel).....outstanding "tossability"... MORE

Robert, Nice idea, but the only spring balance scales I have are wimpy ones that measure in grams. If 200grams would pull my car I would be extatic! Worth looking out for better scales though and giving it a try. Guy "Guy Weller" 32048... MORE
"Surely they should last....." Depends upon use over time. As we know, when they sit (especially "unprotected"), certain items not only continue to wear, they wear at an accelerated rate due to lack of lubrication along with "water within" (condensation, etc.). My car sat outside (but under a cover) a good part of last winter which in these parts, was uncharacteristically very cold. But the vehicle was started, thoroughly warmed and "moved" (shocks, brakes, etc.) at least once a week. Also, the exhaust outlet was kept covered while the car "sat". These are strictly for reduced rolling resistance, not necessarily for improved performance, as certain things would increase your 'lap time' through worse handling. Fit narrow (standard 145) tyres and pump them up as hard as the highest recommended pressure; use the lowest viscosity oils in the transmission (consider ATF for the gearbox?); check/adjust the tracking to as close to zero as you can get it, and check all four wheels' alignment; remove any extra un-necessary weight. Hi all, I have just started on a project to restore a 1976 1500 MG Midget, the car was given to me last weekend and it was already stripped down. The first thing I want to do is to refurbish and re-paint all of the old parts that will be underneath the car, including the rear axle, prop shaft and steering rack. I started on the prop shaft yesterday by clearing all the flaky rust off and getting it ready to treat with Jenolite before using some smooth hammerite on it, as I have not yet received my workshop... Hi, I=92ve just =91joined the club=92 with my 1960 leaf-green frog. I bought he r back in February and although completely restored, she=92s been sitting in a gar age for 7 years, so I=92ve been quite busy making adjustments and sorting a few teething problems. Although she=92s running fine for the moment, one of the Carbs needs reconditioning and I need an electrician to check over the loop. Can anyone recommend anyone? Hi list, I have huffaker spec 1 1/4" HS2's on my 948 competion motor. When I look in the air rams I see a fountain of un-atomized fuel coming up around the needle of the front carb while running. No fuel is visible when looking in the rear carb. I'm guessing the front float bowl needle is not shutting off and pressure is building up and forcing the fuel in the carb. I have a holley pressure regulater that I think I have adjusted to the minimum pressure (about 1 psi) Is this likely the cause? (I have new... MORE
Quoted price for new bumper fixing plates is under =A312 each so I have ord ered two, not worth the effort of fixing up the old ones. A new spring bar is only =A314 so I have ordered one of those as well. With it all new hop efully it will all be correct and I will be able to take correct measuremen ts and let you know. Hello again to the group I left for the winter. Now that spring weather is back in Iowa, I am rejoining the collective wisdom of the group. My brake lights do not work. Taillights do come on when the headlight switch is turned on. Looking up the wiring diagram, I assume the first thing that could be giving me trouble is the brake switch. Where is it located? Terry, Mine's 45mm on the (RH) driver's side and 40mm on the passenger side - it's obvious that the spring bar on mine is also distorted side-to-side - you can fit a thumb in the gap between the tip of the bumper blade and the wing on the RH side and barely a little finger on the LH side. Do the tips of the bumper come as far as the wheelarch on yours, looking from the side? The spring bar is a good place to start checking, as they're not all that strong, and if the car does have... Jim My bushings came from Moss, and yes they're pretty tricky to fit. I ended up widening out the two areas the ends of the wishbone go into on the frame, putting one bush into each inside of the wishbone arm, fitting the arms to the frame then pushing through the second bushing through the hole in the frame - then the bolts. Odd. On mine the knurled cable fitting just passed through that hole. Close fit but it worked. I cannot measure it as as I don't want to take the grommet out again. I do remember that getting it into place with the cable already through the hole as really difficult because of the awkward location. Jim, You don't say what the material composition of the bushing are (rubber. urethane, Delrin, etc., but all require some type of lubricant and some precompression into the A-arm. Rubber lube would be best and special bushing should come with an installation lubricant or at leasta recommendation in the instructions. Curt, The easiest thing to do as process of elimination, is to install another dizzy with the stock ignition and see what happens. It's nornal for coils to get warm, even hot. Gerard "gerardchateau" 31800... MORE
I found the source of the wisp of smoke from the starter area to be that the 3 wire connector between the distributer and ignition module (Howard Assoc. of Costa Mesa Ca.) was sometimes shorting against the +12 Volts to the starter (neg. earth set up). It's no longer in a position to short, But I still loose ignition after I start to crank. Think I cooked the ignition box? If so, what would be the hot choice to replace it?
