Gentlemen - Currently working on headers/exhaust for my V8 MG Midget (Buick 215), was wonder what type of clearance between the bottom of the floor and the top of the exhaust pipes I should have, and wether to use heat shields or not? Also I notice the big thing these days is to use an x-pipe, is this a big advantage or not worth the extra effort? Also any recommendations on mufflers? Looking for somethin small in diameter (2" exhaust pipes?) & cheap like a glass pack "Thrush", want a deep throaty european sound? Had a MGB in school... MORE

Could be lots of things. Check the easy stuff first. Plugs, plug wires, coil. Also check that the low voltage connections to the distributor and coil are sound. Tell us what's been checked/tried so far? "joe blxfstz" 36786... MORE
How do you lube the steering on a 60 bugeye. There is a zirc fitting and the book says to use 140 weight gear oil. I went to the car parts store and couldn't find a tool to inject the oil into the fitting. Any ideas? Thanks Bob Irwin rlirwn@... 36732... MORE
Cap'n, that depends on the make of 68, possibly. We have the early 2 wiper 68, with the fixed needles. The 3 wiper cars may have had the spring loaded type. Brad eedles? "" 36724... MORE
Vince....I may be mis-understanding your terms, but here goes..... Off hand, it sounds like the front carb is "weak" while the rear carb is "correct" or maybe a little rich. Don't forget, these are "interdependent" considering they're "connected" by a "balance" tube. Therefore it is possible for one carb to run the whole show....IOW, one "weak" and one maybe "overly" rich. For BOTH carbs..... the result with proper mixture should be a slight initial rise in rpm (50 or so) followed by a return to the prior i dle speed as the air valve is "held" less than 1/8"... MORE
Hello, Couple of questions I have hopefully some one can solve them for me. My Car is Uk 1500cc 1976 Midget First my car does not indicate tothe right when the steering wheel is dead straight. The lights does not come up and the dash board and the clicking noise is far more rapid than it should be. However when I turn the steering wheel a small amount in either direction it works fine. ( And i get strange looks when I have to sway across the road so my car will indicate) The left hand indicator works fine.... MORE

I finally replaced my old, rotten seats with leather, but have had a heck of a time mounting the new ones. First, the seats were not marked left or right. I couldn't get the passenger seat to find the holes in the floor, so I moved it to driver side and it seemed to fit better (but not perfectly). I have the slide rails mounted so that the right angles face the middle of the seat and the seat adjustment lever is on the left rail, both sides. Is this correct? Anyone know? I thought this would be easy!... MORE
Next Wednesday, the B17 and B24 that fly out of Connecticut will land about 2 miles from my house at War Eagles Air Museum, Santa Teresa Airport. For $400 bucks I can get a 30 minute ride on either plane. Anybody done this? Worth it? The 30 minutes is start up to stop, and after gaining altitude and leveling out, passengers are allowed to move about the plane to sample each manned point, with the exception of the pilots seat I assume. Listers - The enigine/trans is a 1963 all aluminum Buick V8, 215 ci. (I'm told the 4barrel carbed ones are high compression, something like 11 to 1 and are good for a stock 200hp) The trans is a Borg-Warner T-50, aluminum 5 speed, I think it's from a late 70's Chevy V8 Monza. The added frame rails are 2" square steel tube, not sure I needed that much added to the sides of the original frame rails (probably could have used a 1" x 2" on it's side) but boy did it ever stiffen up after they were installed.... Hi Folks, Recently my uncle passed away and I now am suddenly becoming more involved with the family farm, he was running it up until now. First thing is the barns need a massive cleanout. Neither my dad or my uncle ever threw anything away. Me either for that matter. I was there today working and I found a small stash of Spridget parts there I forgot I had. Well, Dave.... The biggest/best change you can make is to bring up the compression ratio next time you have the head off, unless you're taking it apart for piston/ring replacement. Taking the head from 21cc down to 19cc should be good for just under 8.5-1 and were you to go to 8.8-1 pistons next time around, the combo would be good for between 9.0-9.3-1 or so. You could take the head down to 16.4cc but now you're down to min. thickness for the head (strength, cooling, head-gasket issues, etc.). Besides mechanical stuff, better breathing will help. wfo yes it has good suspension ,i got the springs, brakes, swaybar, and urathane bushins from moss motor. the car set about a 1/2 inch of the ground. for the rear im using a rear from a s-10 2.43 gears, and one set up with3.73 gears. i have takin the car out to the drags it did a 13 flat at 113 mph spinning the tires down the track with the 2.43 gears. as for the conversion i didnt do it but the guy that did said it was simple. i bought the car from my old boss who... Jens, I agree with all the above and I might add that if it was running ok with oil pressure and no rattling sounds when put sleep, it should be ok now. The first thing I would do is to make sure if there is pressure or not. I would pull the plugs and add a little squirt of oil to allow the engine to turn over faster, pull coil wire and crank engine for at least 20 to 40 seconds. If no press, pull open an oil line, or pressure valve cap, and crank to see if oil... MORE
I bought what claimed to be a sticker set for a midget, but its obviously for a 1275, as the chassis plate is wrong, it has MG cars written on it not Austin morris like my original and the negative earth warning sticker is wrong, the suplied sticker has 'warning negative earth' witted in black on a silver background, the original one Which I still have as it's still attached to the original nose cone that was repalced is at least twice the size, has red writing and a whole lead more writing on it. Spent yesterday squeek and rattle testing in the feild, My 1500 Midegt has now put another 2 miles on its odometer (first movement it has seen in 16 years).. Found a loose shock boly, a loose wheel bearing and that I had only started the fuel pipe union into the tank and not done it up.. once it was all done it drove reaonably well.. apart form one thing, the clutch is still not working properly.. If you hold it down in 1st, the car gradually creeps off, my suspision is it fluid is leaking past the seals back... MORE
Which according to Terry Horlers book they don't. How do I know? I have just been to Gaydon and consulted the achives there and have seen the build records for real myself. My car is listed as being Teal Blue, built on the 17th Jan 1975. Whats more there are more than a few Teal blue 1500 if the build records are right. stewart you are correct to use 35 amp fuse.i am nearly sure the fuse in question protects indicators,fuel gauge and heater blower and operates when ignition switch is on.i had a similar problem on my 1977 1500 midget and found the problem was caused by worn wires on the indicator stalk shorting. to rectify,unscrew four screws that secure the cowls to the steering column remove lower cowl then move upper cowl in anti-clockwise direction round steering column,depress horn slip-ring contact and ease the cowl off the column.remove clip holding the switch wiring harness to the steering column and disconect... A fault from 16 years ago is back to haunt me.. The car is a 1975 MG midget 1500 RHD. The bottom fuse of the 4 keep on blowing, although not always immediately. By the bottom one I mean the one closest to the front of the car, I suppose I should ask what rating it should be, but as it has a 35 amp fuse in I doubt its going to be much higher!.
