The future 200 watts is correct El Capitan. I just had an error in stating that my current setup puts out 20 amps when it should have said 20 watts. As for the future 200 WATTS IT IS but probably in the '69 CGT as to provide a bit more security (locking doors and an alarm system). I like the visual of the Memorex commercial :) It is the set-up I had in 1992 Civic Si prior to having a stupid driver try and shoot through an intersection at the same time as me in 1995. Colin Well, I think the concensus is that their 'original' finish was indeed 'natural' but rebuilt ones were painted black all over. I was in two minds whether to leave them natural and spray a clear coat over them or to paint them silver. My main concern was to finish them in such a way as to protect them from the elements, so the paint won. I never set out to build a 'concours' car, that was never my intention - the car will be used and used regularly and enjoyed for what it is - so slavishly following... MORE
Guy Hey! Thats MY cheapo trolley jack! My dad got me that for Christmas one year I think, and it's been so useful. Which alloy castings? The steering rack ones? ...or you could put Fiero seats in the car. Mine have speakers built in to the headrests and I can hear them just fine. And for now they are only getting 20 amps supplied from the Sony CD head unit. Chris Take a look at some cassette/cd/radio's or whatever you intend putting into the car and see what speaker wattage rating they're rated at. Alternatively, if ones already fitted, try and find that model and see what the speaker wattage is recommended for it. If it's rated at 20 watts per channel output, any speakers rated between from 20 watts and upwards would be fine. It would be pointless putting in speakers rated at 100watts as the maximum output out of the radio/cassette/cd is 20 watts at max volume, so that extra capacity is wasted. You need to look... MORE
During my restoration of my shell, I had to take this off to repair it, but on the 1500 there are 4 spot-weld holding it onto the inner wheelarch, the rest is bolted onto the radiator mountings and the front chassis members just like any other midget in that respect. Given these spot-weld are already undone is there anything to be gained by welding them back on or can I just drill 4 holes and put bolts in their place? and will this make putting in and taking the engine out any easier? Terry, On the several that I have dismantled, they have all had mastic between bezel and glass, O-ring between glass and the next ring in, and an 0-ring between the case and the metal dashboard. I don't think there is supposed to be an O-ring behind the metal reflector ring. It is stepped and fits against the rim of the case, leaving a gap between it and the dial face to let the light through. One tip here is that you should save discarded O rings from the rear hubs as these will fit around the tach and speedo... MORE

To fix this you are going to have to open up the case and get into the detailed workings. It is pretty delicate stuff in there and parts do wear out. You may prefer to get it to a specialist to recondition. If you do want to sort it yourself you will need to remove the chrome bezel and glass and then undo the two screws on the back of the case. Remove the mechanism complete. It does come out, but may seem like it won't, especially if it has a trip mileometer fitted. Inside, resist the temptation to... MORE
Looked at Maplin's web site and see that ultra bright White LEDS are 2.49/2.99 each. How many you would need I do not know as equivelent to ordinary bulb is not given but light output is 9200 mcd. But they do do a L52AK a 12v 5w halogen bulp, wire ended, for 99p. I think the original are 2.2 watts - so more watts and halogen sholud enable us to see the dials in the dark. Will pick one up when I next pass Maplins. Need to do something about the holder though. Remember not to touch the bulb... MORE
Anyone have a mid 1965 Sprite or Midget with red or black seats with a chassis number either side of H-AN855554 (build date 14th August) and if so what type of seats does it have, as I am beginning to think my car should have buckets. any comments appreciate. Also was it Chris who was changing their bucket seats for something else a while back and if so do they still have them, since I may be interested. I am in the UK about 80 miles north of London. Nigel, As I've mentioned before my dear lady wife bought me a VB interior for my car. I would give the kit a grad of B+. Everything fit well and seemed of good quality. The waterproofing seemed OK. I wasn't impressed with the quality of the carpet set. Seemed a little thin. I had never done anything like this before so putting in the kit felt very risky. It came out looking very good. Just a couple of glitches my inexperience caused that aren't really very visible to anyone else. BTW-The kit seemed an excellent match for the car.... MORE
Ah, yes... I have to clean the inside of my fuel gauge this spring...the gasket has obviously worn to a point where moisture can condense within. Easiest way I have found is to remove the gauge but, not before I loosen the bracket, pull it out and give it a try from the front. Sometimes it comes off with a little prying and sometimes it won't. At that point removal completely to get a decent grip is the only answer I have found to getting the job done. I reseal them by using black silicone sparingly. Cap'n. Bob '60... MORE
Bob, Thanks for the vinyl dye tips. One little disappointment I just discovered . . . I have a beautiful wire spoke steering wheel from my 69 MKIII parts car I had planed to use on this car . . . just discovered they increased the diameter of the steering wheel spindle end at some time after the MKIII :-( However, over all I am very pleased with things are going. Trust the weather is better down there than up here . . . too much rain, but the sun is coming out and we should have a few... MORE
Roger... Over here, the self-contained (within the distributor) electronic ignition is called "PerTronix". Over there, it is known by another name and dammit, I cannot think of it but I am sure a UK lister will help me out here (hopefully). Like most new things, the PerTronix (a Hall Effect Device) had it's share of teething problems when new in terms of failure's. Since I have been using one for the last 3 years or so, I've had no problems. There is an upgraded version out now for most applications called (surprise!), the PerTronix II...which compensates for reduced dwell... MORE
Hi, Roger.. We do have a lister who has done the Vizard carb (and I believe intake manifold) mods to the stock 1.25SU's. I hope we hear from him. Supposedly with these street mods, the 1.25 set-up will match the flow rate of a stock pair of 1.5's. The foregoing notwithstanding, Vizard improvements are flow bench tested/verified. Today, David is semi- retired working on "improving" American V-8's!! (and did objective testing as well on Oil Extreme...like Grassroots, good results!:). Lost my low & high beam headlights, except for quick high beam flasher which I have to maually pull back on and manually hold back to activate the high beams. 90 Dodge Dynasty, tried replacing steering column mounted multi-function dimmer switch(no luck but interestingly, the switch was a LUCAS<PRINCE OF DARKNESS SWITCH! headlight in/out switch but it was replaced about 5-6 yrs ago. Also I might take it by Circut City where about 7 yrs ago they customized the wiring so that whenever the ignition was turned off, the lights would automatically go off even if they were left... MORE

Nigel, Excellent Expert Explanation The "guide coat" thing I think about like this... The surface to be sprayed should be flat, concave, or convex, but should not have dimples, hollows or high spots. Spraying a very thin dusting coat of a contrasting colour at first just changes the colour of the panel, but as you then flatten off with paper around a flat block it has the effect of removing the guide colour from all the peaks and high spots. The valleys and low spots remain untouched by the flat block show they show up with the contrasting colour.... MORE
