I finally have my 1500 back on the road and am able to drive it agian
after 16 years of having it in bits. I have a number of questions,
some are 1500 only and some will be relavnt to late 1275.
First one, What RPM is 60MPH? My car is alagedly giving 60MPH at 4K
RPM in 4th gear, given I was on the motorway keeping up with traffic
and overtaking some of it I am not convinced it is reading right! at
points it was reading close to 70, others lower than 60, but the revs
remained constant. As I belive late some 1275s had the 3.9:1 diff
that I have I bleive the revs/mph in top should be similar for both
cars.
Second qustion, my front carb seems to be a bit sticky, needing a
quick blip to get the engine to idle, however I can't see anything
wrong, apart form the design of the return springs is a bit crap
Cruising at 4K gives about 60psi when hot with an oil cooler.. is
this OK for a 1500? drops to 18psi indicated 2 K seems to give 25-
30psi
Car seems to be returning 32MPG (200 mile run) is this nromal, would
fitting the 3.7 diff I have make it better? as engine would appaer to
pull very well and its a lot eaiser a drive than my 1275 frogeye, if
not quiet so go kart like, ultimatly the frogeye is faster but the
1500 is a lot more civilised
Oh and I have had to tighten the bolts on one rear shock absorber
twice now, and it's loose again any help much appreciated!
