This is a group intended for the sole purpose of chat related to
British cars. In general it has stayed on that subject, with a few
digressions. I myself have posted non-relevantly, including earlier
today, and it is correct that I should not do so, instead reserving
my off topic comments for another forum...nevertheless, I feel
compelled to respond to your rant in response to one of our Brit
members. You are way off base, both in directing your venom in this
way, but even moreso because you have put forth falsehoods to
support your emotionalism.
You state that you spent time in the military. I did too, in Viet
Nam, where we were lead by politicians into a misadventure which did
us no good and resulted in the deaths of 55,000 young Americans.
Don't call them "kids", you say? I was there, Matthew, and at age
25, I was senior enough to be promoted to the rank of Captain,
because the rest of the soldiers I served with were younger - 19, 20
21 years old. They were kids, most just out of high school, they
were aften scared shitless, and they died because of the stupidity
of politicians, who sat safe at home while their "kids" did not
serve - just as it is now.
You ask whether there are other free countires in which citizens can
openly criticise their governmant, and you pose that as if there are
none. Ever hear of Britian, France, Germany, Sweden, Norway, The
Netherlands, Italy, etc?
You say we are confronting terrorists in Iraq. The truth is that we
have killed precious few terrorists in Iraq. We have killed Iraqi
soldiers who were defending their country against an invading force,
tens of thousands of them (remember "shock and awe"?), and we have
killed hundreds of thousands of non combanant civilians. Are you
proud of that?
Matthew, you must learn to examine the facts. One fact is that the
majority of us do not support the attack against Iraq. You can find
those stats anywhere you choose to look. Another fact is that the
Bush/Cheney warmongering administration jusified this misadventure
on the lie of WMD which did not exist.
We deserve castigation from other civilized countries because we
choose not to participate in worldwide environmental and other
problems. George Bush has stated publicly, for example, that he
does not accept the concept of global warming, a FACT which is
undisputed by any serious scientist anywhere.
Yes, Matthew, terrorism is a problem we should attack. I have no
problem with the prompt killing of genuine terrorists. Consider the
9/11 attack. It was planned by a Saudi, carried out by Saudis, and
financed by Saudi dollars. Iraq was not involved. Why did we
attack Iraq and not Saudi Arabia? Ask George Bush.
Enough.
