Jeremy...
You made Nigel's point. "You never tired
of running out to look up at it as it passed
over" says it all. Without even looking up
or being outside, you could obviously
could hear it coming while sitting in your
living room!!
This is exactly ONE of the reasons we
didn't join the SST fray. Not useable over
the states in terms of coast ot coast or
border to border, most especially
considering sonic booms. Our airline
industry also went "de-regulated" in
'78 and both Boeing and Douglas saw
a greater need for larger "busses" rather
than greater numbers of "lawn darts".
I always felt our companies were missing
the boat as I felt the SST would certainly
set the standard for international travel
as larger SST types carrying more people
would have been subsequently developed.
with advancing technology.
Then came OPEC and artificially set
pricing.
