About 15 years ago I visited my sister living in Malta.
After a particularly scary trip in her old Austin mini I chatted
with one of the locals in a bar and described the journey.
His reply was simple
"In France they drive on the right, in England you drive on the Left
in Malta we drive in the shade"

P.S. Malta had at the time, some of the biggest potholes I'd ever
seen. On one trip my sister left the road and drove across a field,
joining the road about a mile further on. She explained that all the
locals did it , the field was smoother than the road !!!!!
