As I am sure you are aware, at certain times and with certain models, manufacturers maintain production levels well beyond demand levels and stockpile the surplus - we have all seen photos of acres of brand new cars standing out in all weathers for months on end before eventually being distributed to the dealers.
....only I don't think that Spridgets ever fell into that category, so I doubt that that was the reason in your case. OTOH the British Motor industry was rather prone to frequent strikes and walk-outs at that time. Maybe this would explain the "approximate" production date. Still dosn't explain the long delay to sale date doe is?
