maybe in general, but in the specific arena of MG club racing, there would
be no safety derived advantage in using a hardtop (especially a 'race
weight' one) as it doesn't provide any structural strength, unlike a saloon
or factory built steel hardtop/coupe; and with short races with no driver
changes, this rule would not be a factor either, so Nigel's theory of
superior aerodynamics would appear to be the logical one.
