Alan,
I am one of the ones quite keen to brighten up the instrument lighting.
When I am driving on rural roads at night I usually switch off all the dashboard lights. I love night driving on empty roads with the cockpit in darkness
In fact the high beam warning light really anoys me - it is far too bright at night and I keep meaning to do something about that.
But, in town traffic, I switch on the dashboard lighting - there are too many speed traps around to risk driving by "feel"
