It's not finite and it's not infinite. There is
no black and white answer. All depends
upon circumstances of use and degree
of maintenance/preventive maintenance
performed.
As has been said..."tuning" these wheels
could be done locally when I owned my
MGA's in my high school/college years,
back in the late 50's, early 60's..
Back then, most shops had the equipment and knowledge to properly work
on them
("tuning"/tightening of spokes, etc). This
is now specialty work performed by a few
and no longer inexpensive. So today's
W/W owner had best treat them well and
practice quality preventive maintenance or
it's gonna cost (here in the USA, anyway).
Therefore, IMHO they are no longer
practical for daily service as they were
when I ran them during days of yore, in
my area anyway. NOBODY does wire
wheels around here...and they don't
want to!!
