Jim,
My take on this is that it has become folklore.
The original logic was:
"it is a bad thing to buy and fit a second hand oil cooler - because you do
not know the history, how or what it was installed on,which way round it was
plumbed in, what oil was used, etc, etc".
Probably good sound advice.
