Believe it or not, Dave...
General Aviation as well as the airline
biz has gone this way as well. It used to
be a lot more fun. Now it's "regulated"
(lawyered) to hell.
Today's pilots are taught "approved
"procedure" to the extent any "thinking out
of the box" is going by the wayside.
And even the smaller training facilities
have become more "assemblyline"
oriented. Even the local flying schools
are being taken over by the "larger"
businesses to the extent you don't even
get the same instructor from session
to session. Their response is "all of our
instructors teach the same thing the
same way" when the experienced know
there are about a million techniques within
any given procedure.
That indefinable "human bonding" which
allows the instructor to gauge when the
student has "learned and is ready to "move on".
End result can be a student
with 25hrs who hasn't even soloed yet!!
6 instructors think he's ready to go...4
don't!! Not one of them has spent over
two hrs straight with the student to get
to "know" him and follow/track real
progress as the student tries to learn
10 techniques within "procedure".
"Dumbed Down" to the extent I can't
really be a part of this "money machine".
