It will obviously reduce the strength back to what it had been thought
adequate for the previous 15 years of Spridget production. I've never done
it, but it should be fairly easy to do, if you can get access to
drill/grind all the spot welds. The only converted rubber bumper shell I've
seen personally was used with A series running gear so it didn't have your
clearance issues, and the owner cut his 70-74 type grill to fit round the
rails, and hid the ends with a pair of spotlights.
