All the discussion on transmission and differential changes have forced me
to face some harsh realities . . . Where I live in order to get out of town
there are only two choices; Freeway or miles of traffic clogged streets.
Freeway speeds here outside of work hour traffic and accidents seldom flows
less than 65 miles per hour and 70 to 75 miles per hour is the normal
traffic flow speed any speed less than 60 and you create a dangerous traffic
slow down and hazards as people pass you on any side there is an opening.
Makes it very hard to enjoy driving the Midget at those speeds and high revs
in its stock form. When I owned them in the sixties the traffic seldom ran
over sixty on the freeways and it was easy to get to light traveled
secondary and country roads to let go and enjoy the drive. There is no doubt
I love working on them but I am faced with the reality if I am going to
enjoy driving them under current traffic conditions I have to go with a
different transmission. It's that or a Miata.
