Cap'n Bob,
With respect back at ya.....Wow! Where do I start.
I think the current malaise owes a lot to the sixties ethos. Self actualization, do your own thing, I'm OK, you're OK etc. This experimentation with the social contract eroded the very qualities that made us what we are. Relativism is evil. Black and white are just as valid as gray.
The corporate cheaters don't bother me nearly as much. They got caught and we've survived it before. Rockefeller, Gould, Vanderbilt et al. I have more trouble with action groups, eco-freaks for example, who cloak their particular brand of totalitarian thinking in a just cause. If these people were really serious about improving the environment things would be very different.
I do like the idea of a charismatic leader as focus of a take back the country movement but I am afraid it's too late. I personally would have a tough time trusting his/her motives and too many are hooked on handouts and freebies.
Maybe Jefferson was right in suggesting that revolutions should be more frequent.
