Yeah I so hate having to do that!
This comment was made in frustration after a 'head down' lack of progress
day.
You know those kind of days, I'm sure we've all had them. You spend the
entire day in the garage and make no progress at all, due to one stuck
nut/screw/name your devil. Made even more frustrating knowing there was
so many others things I can be getting on with.
The choice is there, do you continue with said stuckness, or do you just think,
right I'll shift that problem over to someone else and get on with all those
other things?
I've been pretty fortunate so far, pretty much all of the stuck bits I've come
across I've been able to overcome. The only major disaster I had was the
shearing of the nut and part of the bolt in the bump stop housing that holds
the rebound strap to the rear axle. That almost scrapped the rear axle when I
discovered that that threaded pin/bolt that goes through the bump stop
housing is no longer available.
I had to do a bit of lateral thinking on that one and in the end decided to just
get an inch long threaded bolt (same thread as the one on there) and cut off
about 1/4 of an inch off the pin/thread on the axle. I then rounded off the
hexagonal head of the new bolt until it was the same diameter as the
pin/bolt on the axle and welded it on. After I'd smoothed off the welds it looks
ok and is strong enough for the job. Axle saved!
