"I think ultimately....."
Oh yes, Gerard. In the last 40 years it's
been all slowly downhill for sure, at least
here in the USA where special interest
well being preceeds majority well-being...
no doubt about it. Of course, this is all
a matter of extent but we definitely are
headed toward the dark side in this respect. The pendulum has swung too
far
and needs to retreat a bit toward the other
side, so to speak.
But this will not happen under our current
political system which has become a
caricature of itself. We need REAL campaign finance reform (to begin
with)
to return moreso to a government of, for and by the people so as to
attract those
interested in "public service" in it's truest
sense, and relieve ourselves of this era of "career politicians"...who
are slowly over
time, bankrupting us, morally, ethically
and economically and leading us down the pathway to becoming more of a
third world nation. "The Fish Rots From The
Head".
IMHO, this downslide coincided with the
JFK coup'detat and it's immediate aftermath vis a vis the Warren
Commission Report....Bush's Administration isn't the only one that
lies by a long shot. All governments do...
it's a question of extent. And in the USA,
those we elect to the topmost positions
are all bought and paid for by those who
direct certain events from behind the scenes...Kennedy was withdrawing
from
Vietnam....his replacement re-committed
us...in spades ("Rolling Thunder") and though Johnson did...we made no
progress!!!! We got our asses kicked and
finally the American public screamed bloody murder (as they should!!)
and got
us out.
Still, good place to live, relatively speaking, eh? Even as it decays,
it's
still the best at it's worst....thus far,
anyway. And I'll be outa this reality soon,
anyway. And while I'm in no hurry, I
won't be fighting to remain. Glad I grew
up when I grew up! :)
