Shurrup you, cantankerous so and so ! ; )
My car isn't going to be a 'concours' car.
Whilst I do try to stick to 'originality' as much as possible, I'm not going to
down the route of replacing perfectly good components for new ones just for
the sake of aesthetics, because I also beleive in retaining as much of the
'original' car as possible.
I may put the car in for some 'condition class' competitions, because it would
be nice to get some recognition for all the hard work thats gone in, but it will
never be a pure 'Concours' car, becuse I'll want to use it for what it is - a car.
Concours cars are like 'pampered infants' with owners frightened of taking
them out for a drive in case they get a stone chip. That rather defeats the
object of having a beautiful car in my mind, they're there to be used.
I was reading through one of the main Classic Car magazines the other day
and noticed a dealer for sale advert for a MKI MGB Roadster, that had been
meticulously restored by a fanatic. This car had won many concours awards
and the dealer had the car up for sale at about 25k GBP (37.5k USD) and refused
to sell it to anyone who would use it as a car!
This is the nonsense that happens when cars get to such a pristine condition
they cease to be used for what they were intended for.
