If you read one of my earlier posts regarding the front hub smaller bearing
not going all the way down to the spacer, I can now tell you why that was.
When I started working on the second hub to fit the bearings and oil seals, I
took a look down the hub, to see how far down the smaller bearing had to go.
Yep you guessed it (well I hope you did ; ) the outer 'RACE' of the smaller
bearing was still down there! Doh! That's why on the other hub the smaller
bearing wasn't going down all the way - it was being stopped by the outer
race still there.
I took out that race, and all fitted fine.
I now had to go back to the other front hub and (with gritted teeth) knock out
the 'new' smaller bearing (which came out quite easily) and then the old one
stuck down there, which proved somewhat more stubborn. It decided to split
in two rather than come out whole! Once that older race was out, all fitted
fine.
I don't mind being the subject of people's amusement, as long as my
experiences help others in similar positions to me, and don't make the same
gaff's I do! We learn from each others experiences, and this is what this list's
all about.
