I guess it also depends on how much the 'plate' is worth, I mean if we're
talking a couple of k, then it probably would be worth selling to help fund the
restoration. As much as I don't agree with 'plate' transfers, it is justifiable if it
helped keep one of these lovely cars on the road.
Personally, and this is only a personal view, I think all 'plates' should be
non-transferable, I simply do not see the point of allowing people to transfer
the 'identity' of a car to someone else for the sake of 'vanity' for want of a
better word. It's just non-sensical in my mind.
I would much rather see a similar kind of system to that used in the US, where
people can pretty much pick and choose what's on their licence plate, if they
want to. These can be differentiated by region, and would be much more
easily identified and remembered and would make the job of the Police that
much easier.
Our current license system is well and trully fubar'd in my mind, and is just
another example of how the 'bureaucratic' idiots that run the country want to
maintain 'absolute' control over everything.
