Hi, Dave...welcome.
I've heard nothing but good things about
the Frontline kit. While it IS expensive,
it is extremely well-designed in terms
of structual load sharing, unlike my
Wheelrite kit which, while adequate and
satisfactory, is not as "supportive" in this
particular respect.
The problems inherent with the original
lever shocks have been overcome by
Worldwide's Peter C., based here in the
USA. See his article on lever shocks under Spridget tech articles at:
www.gerardsgarage.com
The "problems" with levers include a "fixed", rather than the tube
shock's "variable" rate of response. They also require topping off every
now and then as
oil is required to keep the
seals in satisfactory condition so they can
do their job. As they wear, they leak more
oil.
Other problems include the apparent lack
of quality in reasonably priced "rebuilts"
along with the fact new ones are not
inexpensive.
Peter C. has managed to solve all the
foregoing problems of the lever shock
by actually rebuilding units to better
than new condition. Matter of fact, had
my BE come with levers instead of
it's Wheelrite tube conversion, the car
would presently be sporting a set of Peter's Worldwide shocks.
I do not know what shipping and/or
customs inbound costs will add to a
pair of front shocks prepared by Peter
C., but it might be worth your looking
into?
From those who use Peter's shocks (or
those who have the Frontline kit) I can't
recall any negative comments. Just the
opposite as a matter of fact.
