Easy-outs are tools used to extract a bolt that has sheared. You drill a
hole down into the bolt, tap the easy out down into the hole, then carefull
y
turn the easy-out and bolt back out. In reality, what often happens, is th
e
easy-out continues to enlarge the drilled hole and never really bites
enough. Or, worse: the easy-out breaks and then you have something 10 time
s
harder than the original bolt to try and remove. Easy-outs have helped me
many times, but when they don't work they cause huge problems.
