A lot of modern cars use an all glass bulb with just two wires from it, that is a firm push fit into a plastic holder which itself has "ears" that fasten to the back of the speedo - or whatever. I looked at one of these and reckon that the plastic unit could easily be fastened in place with a blob of silicon.
