Well! I guess I could be sarcastic and snippy and say "thanks for the
underwhelming response" or something like that but I'll try to bite my
tongue and just be grateful for the response I DID get from an email
to Barney Gaylord, the webmaster of "MGA With an Attitude."
He responded quickly with a detailed message and a link to pictures of
the gearbox in question. For those who might run into a similar problem:
The reverse light switch caused the reverse selector detent to stick
and that allowed reverse to be selected all of the time. The
first/second gate locked out properly but third/fourth didn't. I took
off the side cover and with a mirror and a small screwdriver I was
able to push the reverse fork back into position. The caveat here is
to be careful while adjusting the backup light switch. The PO had left
it out altogether and now I think I see why!
