I think the reason your prices are cheaper than ours, certainly at the
moment
is the USD to GBP exchange rate, which is an astronomic 1 GBP to 1.83 USD at
the moment, which is the highest rate its been for years.
The other reason is that our cost of living is astronomic compared to that
in
the US, I don't think a lot of Americans realise just how expensive it is
here. I
know everyone will think its expensive wherever they live, that's human
nature, but it really IS expensive here!
Last time I looked England was 5th in the 'most expensive places to live' in
terms of cost of living world table. Personally I think it's higher than
that,
because our government seems to think that having an inflation rate of about
2.5% makes things look cheaper! That doesn't explain how virtually
everything goes up by more than 2.5% !
My council tax went up by 15% last year and is scheduled to go up by the
same
amount this year, house prices are going up by about 6-10% per year, and
people in this country pay more for public transport than anywhere else in
the world!
Of course having inflation so low means wage demands and increases are
locked to inflation, very convenient huh? So in effect, because wages don't
anywhere match inflation increases, the general cost of living just keeps
going up, and products and services just cost a lot more than anywhere else.
Then they wonder why our product exports are not competitive - go figure.
I could go on and on about this, but I think you get the general idea :)
