I think that there are are pros and cons with both systems, but for sure, if
you have a lot of money then it makes life , and health a lot easier in
which ever country you live.
I hate seeing the taxes I pay wasted, but as an insurance policy we have
what we have , and at the point of service it cannot be faulted in the UK.
If you have an emergency then the service is fantastic with no expense
spared, I don't mind my taxes being spent on this , I also agree with Bob
and Nigel that its wrong that freeloaders or whatever you want to call them,
come to the country and 'steal' a service they haven't paid into. Sometimes
charity must begin at home.
On the other hand, I damaged my back in May last year, an injury that would
normally take a couple of weeks to heal.I feel I should have had an MRI scan
at that time to sort out where and what was actually damaged. The problem
got worse until at Xmas I tore yet another muscle in my back which has
relieved a lot of the original pain and now I'm almost normal again (All
restoration work on the 72 midget has been put on hold) . I have just
recieved an apointment for 23rd April.2004 for an MRI scan. So yes there are
problems with the health service in the UK but overall it does deliver when
neccessary. Yes there are too many 'managers' and not enough 'angels' in the
system.
Like most professions too many chiefs , flower arrangers and paper shufflers
and not enough indians.
BTW
The lifeboat association (RNLI) which saves many lives at sea in the UK is
in fact a charitable organisation. The subsequent medical treatment is paid
for by the working population via taxes or National Insurance payments
directly from our wages. And yes it is the lower middle class* that bears
the brunt of all the costs/ taxes. ( *IMO a horrible description, I like to
think that I'm upper working class!!!! )
