One of the jobs I hated most on the car (and there were plenty of
them) was scraping all the underseal/bitumen off the inner
footwells and fronts of the inner footwells. I'm not small (no
comments needed on that one thanks Ed) at 6 foot and getting
inside those footwells and scraping, scraping, scraping was very
uncomfortable!
Regarding carpet glue and fluff, I found Cellulose thinners
worked really well. Apply it with a brush, leave for a few minutes
and it just scrapes off, once you've got the majority off - go over it
with an old rag moistened with Cellulose thinners and it comes
off clean (as well as some of the top coat!). I then went over this
with Nitromors paint remover and took off all the paint.
Forget trying to remove underseal/bitumen/carpet glue with
Nitromors - it doesn't work.
I painted the footwell areas in etch primer/high build primer/top
coat - the same as the rest of the body. I did use seam sealer on
all the overlapping joints/weld seams beforehand.
