If the breather system is the source of smoking it is extremely easy to
check.
Simply disconnect it!
A 10 minute test drive will show up the difference if this is the problem.
Disconnecting the breather will almost certainly cause the rear crank seal
to leak oil during this test.
Personally, I doubt if a faulty breather is the cause of smoking. It is
much more likely to be a cause of a bottom-end oil leak than a top end
smoking problem.
