No, Russ, yopu do not have to get into the trans to deal with the
clutch slave cylinder - it's mounted on the outside of the
bellhousing just behind the engine. Unless you are really, really
skinny, you will need to jack the left side up to gain access. If
you have a 1500 (and if you do, I feel sorry for you ;)) the slave
is secured by a pinch bolt - otherwise, it's held by two bolts.
