Over this side of the pond it has been sold as a way to make the tyres last
longer (no oxygen to attack the rubber from inside or something - sounds a
bit more plausible than more mileage) A guy at work recently had some new
tyres on his car and they put nitrogen in without asking, so when they
tried to charge him for it, he told them to take it out and put air back
in!
