Yeah, right!! We're the devil.....all others are "OK", never do anything wrong or make mistakes, right?? They're "perfect", we're "guilty", right? You wanna throw rocks? Include France, Germany & Russia who sabatoged UN efforts vis a vis Iraq in favor of their own national interests vis a vis their underhanded Iraqi oil deals with Mssr. Saddam. You think we'd been in Iraq today had the UN had the support of the foregoing big powers??? You know how much international jealousy there is out there for our way of life here in these United States??? Obviously, you have no clue.... MORE

Keeping intake air cooler is a good thing in the summer. Keeping the ex manifold hotter is a bad thing (unless, maybe, if you're running a turbo). "joe blxfstz" 37444... MORE

Just oudda curiosity, has any one tried both? Very small (rapid response ) turbo into a small supercharger? Could be wonderful! Bob "Robert D. Gardner" 37307... MORE

"we think turbocharging is the way forward" Most likely is, if someone can come up with a "variable" waste gate for both low and high end and a nice, "flat" torque curve.... and have no fear....somebody will!! :):) And of course, intercooling of the charge is a real nice thing to have for obvious reasons. The great thing with supercharging is "immediate" low/mid-range torque for the basically stock street car....in the order of a 40% with a "gentle" (on the motor) 6psi. IOW, (high) revs are not required, which for our 3 main bearing applications is a blessing. A... MORE

Que dinero??? US$3,000 like the MiniMania and H/P kits... notice these are "kits" and not just the blower. However, it LOOKS like the supercharger emblem is not included.... that's another US$20 bucks!! Now, THIS is a ripoff!! I mean for 3k, they can't include the supercharger emblem???! Yep!! There you are! And at the going price considering the MiniMania/Hans Pedersen kits. More low/mid-range torque for street fun. Having driven a stock '67 1275 Spridget using 6psi boost, I can honestly say it is worth the 3k assuming you are go ing to keep the car. Probably one of the most worthwhile upgrades besides the Datsun 5 speed for those who want true "quick". 6psi is the lowest amount of "effective" boost (torque/heat) without unduly loading stock parts providing you don't over-rev the motor and resist the urge to constantly take it to the redline, bearing in... Interesting thoughts. However, I would think that a SC would provide better bottom end torque and drivability. I was thinking that $3000 is alot of money but later (when a rebuild is required) you could drop the compression ratio and up the boost for serious performance. I'm anxious to hear feedback from people who install the kit before shelling out $3000. trevorwj@... 37266... MORE

Just some off the wall thoughts. $3000 is a lot of money, and unless your engine is already in perfect condition, you would probably want to do an engine rebuild too, so you're at maybe $4500 ready to rock 'n roll. You could do a reworked head, cam, bigger carb, overbore, have less money in the job, just as much HP, and probably better bottom end torque. It like like a stock engine with the Moss SC should produce something like 90 HP. Lot of money for that, say $180 per HP, and that's without any clutch or rear... MORE

I thought you might like to see these stats about dragsters. It is surprising and amazing. Bob Dragsters..... Cool info about dragsters.......... * One Top Fuel dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first 4 rows of race cars at the Daytona 500. * Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1=BD gallons of nitromethane per second. * A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to even drive the dragster supercharger. * With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a... Duncan.... Your basic reasonably priced tubular type 'cause far as I know (which may not be that far, Duncan!:).... ..............the turbo type is a larger oval that won't fit "back there" and ground clearance wouldn't allow good fit under the car either, I don't think? Chuck...do not be mislead by compression ratios which could be had back when leaded ("manly") octanes were available . Today's unleaded "garbage" octanes require a little more thought in this di rection, assuming a cast iron head and the ignition advance curve you're probably working with, along with a "mild" cam with relatively little duration which will favor maximum "trapping" of the combustion gases in favor of the low end of the useable rpm spectrum (torque.. as in street application). With aluminum heads you can go about a point higher than with cast iron, all else being equal. Also,... MORE

Mitch..IMHO.... if you are going to use the Judson, I would call APT and source the best quality valve they have to offer. Otherwise, unless you've got a hairy cam in there or are running 10.0-1 or a higher static compression ratio, standard quality/design should be fine normally aspirated. About oversized exhaust valves....many moons ago when the first 1275 Cooper S types came out, they went with a larger 1.4 intake valve and subsequently, went to a larger than stock exh.valve to "match", feeling this would give more powe r. It didn't. What it did do was lead to... MORE

Bob Nice to hear from you. You may have to blow the photo up a bit to see the detail since it is in panoramic format, the non-Spridget on the right hand end is a Le Mans replica MGA, the red car about halfway between my Sprite and the MGA is an Arkley. The Arkley is built by stripping the outer panels from a Spridget and replacing them... MORE

The 6R4 engine was developed from the Rover V8, in turn developed from the 215CID all alloy Buick V8. it was basically a V8 block with 2 cyls lopped off the end. The 6R4 engine ended it's life after being bored out and having two dirty great turbos bolted on in the back of the Jaguar XJ220. Not a bad end for an engine GM threw in the bin. Hi all As discussed in the previous thread my 1500 is totally standard bar the K&N filter, which was fitted and set up by the MGOC on their rolling road. However it has always been a bit hesitant, especially pulling away from cold. I also noticed it yesterday when it was fully warmed up and I was driving along at about 40.Ipressed the pedal down to accelerate and there was a definate hesitation, almost like turbo lag. Naturally I checked under the bonnet to see if some wag had fitted a turbo, but alas not! When I bought the... MORE

Hi Terry So what you are talking about fitting is basically a stage 1 tuning kit. My Mini has a stage 1 kit fitted, but it really hasn't made much difference to the insurance premium. About =A310 more per annum or something silly like that. If you do the conversion make sure that you get the right carb needles as well, otherwise it will run horribly rich. Ideally these things need to be set up on a rolling road.............. There are 2 types of K&N filters for the 1275 cars, either 2 separate pancake filters or the deep combined... MORE

G'day Paul Sounds like you have a Mini Metro Turbo head gasket. It's hard and black, and in my opinion the very best you can get. Apart from being a denser material, it also has re-inforcing fillets between the cylinders. My race engine runs 13:1 compression, and I have NEVER blown a head gasket. All the guys racing Sprites and Midgets Down Under use this gasket. One guy I know has re-used his 3 times now (he's cheap) and even he doesn't blow them! The Payen part number is TAM1521, at least that's what it is on the packet... MORE

There is clearly a differnce between what the employee mechanic gets in his wage packet and what the employing garage charges for his time. Typicaly a gargae in the UK will charge between 30 and 90 GBP per hour as a labour rate. The range will relate to what type of garage it is, where it is located, and what make of car it deals with. Some specialists expensiv e machinery will be well over the upper figure here. The mechanics in those same garages will get far less, typically from 8 to 20 GBP per hour. I think... MORE

Neil... I too have been told the same about the 3.7 diff from Bill Perry of Rivergate (and he oughta know!). In my discussion with him on this (I've used a 3.7 for many moons) it became apparent that it's all in how the individual driver treats his machinery. Does he transfer gobs of power instantly, or not. IOW, does he/she beat on it? My current 3.7 diff came out of my '74 Vizardized Spridget..90+hp at the wheels. I put about 10K on the car annually for 12 years or so, then it saw service in my '67 Sprite... MORE
